You hit the nail on its head. I think its a very important point:
"Essentially what SW has done is sell people their own information"
I don't think it can be said any better. Gambling publications are one thing but forums are another. People aren't getting compensated for joining green chip. Pi Yee Press is the beneficiary. For example, DD' is paying his own money to answer the questions by others. That just doesn't sound right. If money is to be payed, it should be to the one who is helping others by taking the time and being kinda enough to share what they know. I feel greater equality would result if discussion took place on open forums.
How about open your own GC free for all? I'll help you get some Government fundings. (I had run some government-funded programs previously.) Meanwhile, Wong needs to charge a fee to run GC. Fair enough? Good Luck.
than bracing folks for their willy-nilly decision to pay $49 per yr to escape this kind of thread. You sound like an energetic and sincere sort. Perhaps you would better serve humanity if you directed your ambition towards something really important. The decision over spending the $49 bucks is not the global issue you are trying to make it. Most, I would venture, do not share your pecuniary angst. Some, like bp (see his response, with which I concur) gladly pay the $49 to enjoy a higher level of discussion.
Here's a deal for you. You start a free BJ page, and after it is popping for a month or so, come back here and tell us where it is and perhaps some of us will give it a look. But if this off-topic thread you are so desperately trying to keep alive is indicative of what we may find over on The Totally Free Blackjack Page, perhaps you should pack a deck of cards to keep you company.
In short, not only have you made your point, it is one which has been made many times before. Perhaps you could just give it a rest. :-)
These thinly-veiled attempts to damage the #1 blackjack destination on the web are always amusing.
The only person damaging GC is...you, with an over-the-top defensive reaction which is likely to create suspicions amongst the impartial and perpetuate this thread further by provoking a response in kind from puzzled. Puzzled asked some questions and got some answers. Now its settled.
i was debating whether or not to shell out the twelve bucks and join green chip...after hearing this useless argument, i've made my decision. i'm about to join, if for no other reason than to participate in an actual discussion about advantage blackjack. Ever heard of it?
Although I don't belong to Green Chip, I know many who do. It is a higher quality forum. The fact that it is not free helps keep out troublemakers and the less knowledgable. Anyone who is a problem gets kicked out. Many people who post and share info there do not post, or rarely post on the free sites. Reasons for that vary, I suppose, but many simply do not want to share certain info with the "masses". If green chip were to be made free, there is no doubt that the quality would drop rapidly. It would be overrun by inane, pointless discussions, and too many people who are long on opinion and short on knowledge. Name calling and personal attacks would also be a problem, just like most of the current free sites. A green chipper can post a comment or opinion without obnoxious responses from some unqualified bozo. A Green Chipper doesn't have to put up with posts regarding "remote viewing" and such nonsense. Oops, I feel an attack coming on! I better quit. :-)
