I have been using hilo throughout my whole career. Once I planned to switch to halves but when it still took me 40 seconds to count down a deck after one month of training I gave up the project. My feeling was: even if I brought it down to casino speed it wouldn't be errorfree and the promised 20% increase in winnings would vanish in the air. I would be greatly absorbed by the counting process and couldn't pay enough attention to other aspects of the game. Also, fatigue would set in much quicker.
I use hilo with full indices and enhance my winrate with shuffle tracking when possible. But in my view the most important part is game selection. Here I don't mean only score-related aspects.Game speed is probably even more important. I have the feeling that most card counters play in too crowded places.
FLASH will be surprised to hear that after 11 thousand hours of play I have made 1.5 million bucks as an individual.
