Sports Betting

Effective from October 1992, The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (also known as PASPA), effectively outlawed sports betting all over the United States, except for Nevada.

However, times have changed drastically, and with the introduction of modern technologies in the gambling and betting industry, it turned out that the Act was no longer makings sense as it did in the times when it was passed.

In 2018, the Supreme Court made it possible for individual states to determine whether and how to legalize sports betting. How so? By overturning the Act. One of the main reasons why it fell was because it violated the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution by forcing sovereign states to implement the federal policy at their own cost.

Following this milestone moment, a growing number of states have introduced some form of legal sports betting. Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New York, and Arkansas were among the first ones to break the ice.
