Here is what I believe to be the optimal way to become a winning player, regardless of starting bankroll. It does assume you are a basically a good player. If you suck or if you have no guts except a lot of math and probability education, wouldnt make you any real money at the tables. But this strategy is also good for the crappy player as it maximized his chance of staying in chips.
1) Small bankrolls are worthless. You will get eaten by the casino at the micro levels games up to $10 minimum.
2) Time is of the essence. If you are earning $5- $10 per hour in BJ you are wasting your time. Blackjack is not a healthy enough lifestyle to spend the time necessary to have any significant financial benefits unless you are making significantly more money. Go work until you get at least a decent bankroll available to you.
3) 5K to 10K is a small bankroll an small bankrolls are not worth stressing over protecting. Worry about BR preservation as you build it up.
The strategy is as follows ..
Assuming a 20K bank. First, you set down in a 50 minimum table. Bet very aggressive into a Up-as-you-Win progression while using a valid card counting system like Wongs Half count with up to 40 index numbers until you are up $1000. Then lock it up, and play conservative bet up-as-you-win on positive counts only until you are up another $500. If you lose 50% of the 1K profit, quit and end the session until the next day when you repeat the same thing. If you can reach 1.5K profit, you now have a mini bankroll of $1,500 to play with $75 minimum unit. Chose your best game. Buy in for the $1,500 profit. Bet aggressive for up to $1000 of the 1.5K. If you lose 1K that ends the session. It is very easy to win 1K in a $75 minimum bets on a 1.5K buy in. When you have at least 3K in PROFIT leave for the day. The next day repeat with the original 1.5K. Even if you lose you still have 2 more shots at a win. You just need top win a couple hands and you will be on the roll. Repeat process until your BR is 50K.
Now take 5K for buy in and do the exact same thing in a $200 unit game. This is the only area it pays to respect your BR. Dont leave too much of your profit on the table at any one time. If you can win at least 1.2 times in 2 you will be a significant winner. Your BR should be in the 50K or above range, and you should have only been working on it a week or two.
Now you arrive at the stage of having a BR to protect and you should only bet up-as-you-win on positive counts. If you reach table limit at any time, bet that limit only on positive counts and ONLY if you accumulated 2x or more that table limit. If the count is negative DO NOT bet the limit but end the session right there. If is positive and youve won the previous hand then bet the limit and end the session after that.
My main point is small Bankrolls are not worth protecting, it turns you into a weak player. If you have a small bankroll, control your money and play as if your BR is not an issue.
