The tournament just started today, but part of the agreement with GSN (Game Show Network) is that the contestants can't disclose who wins for 120 day's or risk losing their winnings from the show.
GSN can hold the winner money for up to 120 days before paying them.
The TV show starts on Monday March 15th and will run for 7 weeks.
Filming was slow for the first day, only three of the seven shows were filmed. The last four HAVE to be filmed today (Sunday) since the contestants leave tomorrow. Stanford plays today in the last of the five qualifiying rounds. As I said yesterday the winners cannot be revieled until the show airs in March. Sorry I couldn't give you more info.
I didn't get to see the final round. I left Sunday at 7pm & the "2nd chance" round was just starting. Can spectators tell who won?
Funny you brought that point up, it came up last night, the players aren't suppose to say anything yet I was talking to one of the spectators who started tell me about some of the players and how they did. When I asked them if they were told about keeping the rounds secret until the showing they told me nothing was said to them about it. Nothing else was said about how players finished after that point.
I hope that the players and spectators respect the GSN wishes and say nothing about the outcome before the airing in March. The GSN is giving us (Blackjack players) a chance to play in large cash prize tournaments (Free of charge) with their only request is not to expose the final outcome of the tournaments.
I hope to be lucky enough to be included in GSN next event, should they host another one. I hope that as players when don't have anyone that would risk ruining this great opportunity that GSN is giving us.
We and all spectators need to not take a chance at ruining the start of something good. Let them surprise the viewing public with it when it airs onTV.
How do you get in the pool?
Do you have to be personal buds with Max Rubin?
For all players, if it is not screwed up. GSN is the first of what I believe to many TV game shows with Blackjack coming in the near future. Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part, but blackjack is the most popular table game at the casinos, why shouldn't it be getting the same exposure as poker tournaments.
If the prize money for BJ tournaments gets up even close to the payouts in poker tournaments the casinos would have to turn players away. With the help of TV maybe we can get there one day.
How to become a contestant, I don't know how they will pick them. The first show had players from around the country, they included some of the more well know players, to make it more interesting. Regardless of how the players are picked I would hope that we all support anyone lucky enough to be selected for the show.
As far as being buds with Max Rubin to get on the show, I don't know if it helps. From the times I have seen him on TV he seems to be nice and players I know, that know him all say he is good guy. I personally would enjoy meeting him, just as I did Stanford, Anthony Curtis, (Las Vegas Advisor) and Henry Tambruim (bjinsider.com). All three of those gentlemen are very nice and VERY interesting to talk with as I feel Mr. Rubin would be.
at this tournament?
The casinos can take full advantage of the onslaught of ploppys and perhaps no longer have any need to offer playable rules. I do not know what others think about this, but it has hit me as a possibility.
The slots, double 0 roulette, and all the carnival games are loaded with players. Unknowledgeable people wanting more blackjack just might be the incentive for the casinos to change BJ into another carnival game.
Somehow together with televising tournaments, there should be some kind of educating people concerning good vs bad rules during regular casino play.
I do not expect it to be the smash hit Poker has been.
And I doubt the commentators will bash the poor rules offered at most casinos since they need to stay on the good side of the houses. I suspect alot of sucking up.
Regards,
Iggy.
When and if TV blackjack tournaments get as popular as poker tournaments, the rules will be made for ratings.
As far as regular table play, as long as people are going to casinos they're going to play BJ and most don't have a clue the differants between SD, DD, shoe, and auto-shuffler. They are there for a good time, win or lose.
It is very simple if you don't like a game don't play it, if you don't like a casino don't play there. No matter what you, me, or anyone else say's we are not going to change the way a casino run's their BJ games as long as they have people playing their tables.
I think they can make BJ exciting enough to work for TV with the right staff and larger payouts. If the avevage person thinks they can play on the show and win money they will support it. I would rather watch BJ on TV then some people on a island, voting people off or some girl picking who she will marry out of a bunch of strangers.

How come?
If the ratings are good enough, they should generate enough cash-flow through advertising to pay for the program itself.
I think the best program -for the viewers -is to take the side of the players, expose the bad bets, and discuss the poor games being offered.
What kinda stir -among the viewers -would it start if they took off on MindPlay tables and all the dark and insidiuos possibilites that thing brings to mind.
The casinos might have to lighten up, players could be informed and flock to those establishments -and those establishments make more money than last year.
That's what I'd do.
No matter what you, me, or anyone else say's we are not going to change the way a casino run's their BJ games as long as they have people playing their tables.
If we could take a chunk out of the number of people going to their tables, it would make a difference. If if if ????
A few "FAIR GAMING" picketers out front could make a big difference. Not only at that certain establishment, but maybe all of them soon thereafter. Maybe???
I read about players all the time trying to hide their card counting from the casinos, now your wanting to picket outside of the casinos and let them know who you are?
I promise you would just be cutting your own throat and changing nothing. I don't like 6-5 payout on single deck BJ, but picketing a casino isn't the way to change it.
Until players stop playing bad games the casinos won't change. The casinos don't care about catering to an advantage player. To make a change you need to have something to negotiate with and what do you have to bring to the table? You not playing is not it, as long as others are willing to take your place.
The bottom line is what makes the casinos the most money (like most businesses), I'm sure this is not what you want to hear, but facts are facts. Games and comps have gotten worst over the years. Only thing you can do have the choice of playing at the casinos or not.
the games and pay advertising etc. They also need the casino as a host property.
I just think they need the casino a hell of alot more than the casino needs them.
Just look at the Travel channel.
Good cards,
Iggy.
