Has anyone heard of a gentleman named Vas Spanos. I'm a newbie to the card counting scene and came across his personal blackjack instruction/mentoring. I live in Minneapolis and that is where he is located. If you have experience with him or have heard anything, please let me know. I'd like to hear any feedback before I make a commitment. Thanks in advance!
you may have playable games. I haven't been out there in 5 years or so. Just because it's blackjack, though, doesn't mean it's beatable. If you have good rules and good pen and are near to casinos then cardcounting is definitely viable.

Not a plug, just a good, solid book without all the fluff. Dry, but everything you need to know. Also get a software program to analyze the games you want to play to see if they're worth it. The other books mentioned are also helpful.
Vas Spanos? Did a search and didn't find anything one way or the other about him. Probably works but not necessary. Counting info is easy to find. The work and patience necessary to implement it aren't anything you can buy. You can get all the help and advice you need to be successful on public forums.
The books are wonderful and you need them to get a good grounding. There real importance is how they affect your attitude to the sport of gambling.
Examples:
A large bankroll can bet small when it has to, but a small bankroll can ONLY bet small and is doomed in an even payoff game.
Time is a big factor. Lost $500 after long hours at the tables and then walked over to a machine and won $5000 in 5 minutes with a $20 start. The game you play doesn't matter as long as you thoroughly understand it and its' potential. Not all games have the potential to make your bankroll, but all games do have the potential to break your bankroll. An exit point should be given a high priority. If you don't win early, you'll spend most of your time chasing losses.
Counting info is easy to find. The work and patience necessary to implement it aren't anything you can buy. You can get all the help and advice you need to be successful on public forums.
I found an old post from Don Schlesinger on the bjmath.com page. This was a response to another poster who was considering the Vas Spanos course, and the price (in February 2003) was $1000 for 20 hours of instruction.

This fellow Minnesotan has taken Vas' course. In my opinion it's not worth the $$ because he has students memorize a ton of index numbers and spends very little time on bet spreads, how to attack the various games, etc. Granted, he's a lively personality and he has the PHD in math, but you can learn to count on your own IMHO.

I took vas spanos class and i feel it was money well spent, a lot of people think BlackJack is just counting cards and learning index numbers, yes is that plus much more...
Money managment, bank roll, discipline, stability, mental state, to mention a few, (positive attitude), i know quite a few of his former students, and in fact, someone that took the class before me that said that it wasnt worth it, after taking his class, my financials have improved due to the extra cash that i now can make, in Minnesota, Wisconsin and las vegas, and yes i put a lot of practice time into the game, 30 min/day. I do enjoy the game and better yet the benefits, he also have a club nite where his former student and current students go and practice in a casino setting (conditions) and he also is there if you have any questions, but the funny thing is that alot of this people that are done with the class, dont even bother to practice in that setting, them you go figure why is not worht the class....
but anyways if you feel is not worth it i think is just your opinion but go ahead and check his website out and call him, talk to him pick his brain, if you are serious about making money with blackjack i think the class is well worht it and remember you will only get out of it what you put into it. http://www.blackjackmaster.com/
