Have you been able to use the principle of the Kelly Criteria to buffer both your bankroll and progression?

During a recent session when my progression was entering shark infested water a (what if) occurred to me which I couldn't resist trying and resulted in a successful conclusion both for the progression and the bankroll. It was equivalent to Star Trek's (Scotty beam me up). Looking forward to trying it again before beating my chest and letting out a Tarzan yell.

"Professional progression player" = long-term loser. Would "professional loser" be more accurate? How does one tell a "professional loser" from a garden-variety ploppy, a degenerate compulsive gambler, or other "good casino customer"?

Many of us are innocent of your comments. Feel free to believe anything you want. At the very least try to enjoy its entertainment value. Overcoming a disadvantage could be considered by some as playing with an advantage.

Your completely at the mercy of the way the cards happen to fall. We also gamble with our lives when we take a flight or take and automobile trip or even go for a walk. The difference is that the risk factor is certainly not in the same realm as gambling with a progression system. We also absolutely have no need to gamble. We have a choice in that decision.

If you want to make money gambling, why not just mortgage everything you have, take the cash and go to Vegas and make one bet with the entire amount you have. Find yourself a single zero roulette game with a very high limit and put all on red or black. In the short run and after it's over, you will be able to label yourself either a successful professional gambler or a gambler who is an extreme looser.

The good thing about this is; you will not have to invest much time like those of us who actually do it for a living or at least supplement our financial future with BJ.

The optimal bet amount is a function of the expected value, bankroll, and variance. Since us math guys obviously don't know calculate the expected value for progressions, it's going to be up to you to determine what it is.

I wish people would start giving progression players the respect they deserve. True visionaries, such as jomoats, always seem to be the victims of unfair, unfounded criticism from the ignorant masses. Admittedly, I had been guilty of such ignorance until jomoats opened my eyes to the truth.

I hope he doesn't get upset with me for spilling the beans, but here's a progression that offers unlimited return:

1) Bet 1 unit.
2) If you win, bet 2 units. If you lose, bet 3 units.
3) Go back to Step 1.

This system is guaranteed to win 271 units* every session, regardless of session length!

I hope this finally puts the matter to rest.

*assumes unit size of 0. Different unit sizes may produce different results.
