I was just thinking about this one, and it gave me a chuckle.
Playing BJ DD in Reno w/my dad. I had been counting w/Hi-lo for a few months with decent results, and I sat down with him promising to pay for dinner. He used to be able to count effectively enough to play a bit better than break-even, but has since had a stroke that has left him saying and doing some extremely funny things at times.
So we're grinding through some rough decks, and eventually catch a dealer with more than 80% pen, and start to receive good situations, resulting in a couple of dinners' worth of profit. I'm impressed by the way he played- UNTIL the ole stroke kicks in during a discussion about whether he should have doubled down (in the context of a couple BJ tourists, of course), and he comes out with "The count was plus enough" !!!!!!!!! I sat there utterly stunned for a moment before clumsily muttering something which I can't quite remember. He looked like a deer in the headlights, and long story short, we were no longer alone at the table and only played a couple more hands before leaving. Later in the hotel we laughed our asses off.
Later, getting on the freeway, there was a long delay for construction. He says "And it sucks that they're doing construction during the start of canning season" HUH? "Dad, I know you said 'canning season', but I think you meant 'rush hour'"
I love that old guy, but sometimes.........
