You were deeply criticized too! If "they" did answer and specify their edges, in the manner described, would you appologize and aknowledge where they were right necessarily, or would you hide behind the claim that your harseness and sometimes venom was necessary to push the debate to its needed educational ends?
The attitude of your opponents is much as if the inventors of the Jeep, in the days just prior to World War II had gone on a jihad to kill all the burros because jeeps are better. Anybody having been to the Grand Canyon knows burros are still needed. From the viewpoint of the Havasupi indians, living at the bottom, and where the canyon walls are too tight for helicopters and the like, they always have to start travel by burro, and have to have ways to decide when it is time to jump off and get the vehicle keys out. Otherwise you endup having to replace too many jeeps and too many burros (losing, fluctuations, accused of cheating, back-roomed etc.).
Your hero, writing in Beyond Counting, was trying to describe when to go driving off in precise terms for the remaining burro riders. GBV is a much better driver, than he, but wants to forget it seems the burros. You are, in this analogy, one of the better burro rider instructors, but refuse to go 4 wheeling until everything is described or perfected (I am being exact by saying "or"). Few of the real pros, assuming that they too started off amoung the Havasupi---ie as conventional counters, and were not just card mechanics that decided to move from black playing arts to more grey area playing arts, are going to be, as real player claims, laughing at you or BJA just because they are offended by your style, and are now able to kick the dirt up with GBV and the rest of the Havasupi that have discovered 4 wheeling.
Would you as a Havasupi appologize for criticisms of yours that at least appear to be saying: stick to burros until jeeps are proven, when your objections were answered? Would you try to say you knew it all along or when challenged make a "disk take?"(pun inteneded) Don't you realize you appear to be some sort of old indian fart saying only burros are holy and proven and jeeps are of the devil?
As to the idiots who wish to burn BJA....they will miss it!!!! Without it they might as well try to tame burros on their own, with only the traditional tools of the Havasupi, at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, as you and I both were able to do. Or did they forget or come in from the dark side, or in the analogy of the Havasupi used here, "do they claim to be Kachinas?"
