Where should a person stay, with family in tow, on a friday night in Reno? I may be able to gamble some, so preferably, there will be some red, possibly green, available in house with good conditions. If not, I can skip the blackjack. I don't want to have to walk or travel to other venues....unless it's really convenient and safe to do so.

Try the El, Legacy or Circus. They are all connected so you can walk from one to other without going outside and Circus has lots of things for kids to do.
I'd avoid bj at Circus but the others have d10 games that are playable. Get a copy of CBJN before you go. A couple of others downtown are playable, though you need to walk outside to get to them and one is in an area that is NOT the safest place in Reno. (guy got shot & killed near one a couple of months ago).

-- I'm not sure which shooting you're referring to (I think it could
be a few);
-- And in the El Dorado/Silver Legacy parking garage also a couple
of years ago, or a bit less, a guy was killed in a fist fight.
It turned out the dooer was the table games manager at Silver
Legacy, and it was about 30 yards from where my car was parked
at the time.
I think the Bunny Ranch has rooms. Probably much safer. And
the girls might entertain the kids.
