Is your 33 seconds turning one card at a time or two? If one, try counting in pairs for better accuracy at the table and increased speed.
In general, the fewer decks the better. The only way 8 would be better than 6 would be superior rules or a much better cut on the 8-deck game.
The deeper the cut, the more opportunities you have for higher counts, where you bet more money and have your greatest advantage.

Yes, that time is counting a letter, in pairs, I make it faster and easier, although I have problems to identify the 6 and 9, in my local casino, I have mixing machines, and in the next nearest the tables are 8 decks, but they are all together and many people close, it becomes difficult not to lose concentration
