Looking for a book

I have seen many references to a book called "Beat the X-Deck Game" by Arnold Snyder. There have been a number of favorable reviews of this book. However, I cannot seem to find it anywhere online. I have tried searching by the author's name, as well as the book title. Does anyone know of a store that carries this book, or know what the ISBN number is?

Unless you are into number crunching and charts, Snyder's series might not be your cup of tea. I haven't seen the revised edition, but have read, if that's what you would call it, the first edition.

I'm not opposed to number crunching and chart deciphering. But I guess it would depend on what information I can get out of it. I've only read a few blackjack books. This is all still new to me. I first read "Winning Blackjack for the serious player" by Edwin Silberstang. I've since read Blackjack Attack: 3, and Burning The Tables In Las Vegas. I'm looking through "Beat The Dealer," but mainly just for it's historical value.

I guess I'm wondering when enough is enough, you know? There are many books out there, and I'm not sure what I expect to learn from one that I cannot learn from another. I know there are various counting methods out there, and different betting strategies. As far as I can tell, there really isn't one that is "better" than another. There might be ones that are more powerful or accurate than the simple Hi-Lo that I've learned. But if I cannot learn to use it effectively, then it's useless to me.

I guess it's just time to stop reading, keep practicing, and start playing.

I'm not a pro, but I've read a lot. Wong's Professional Blackjack is very comprehensive. You can get more than just technical data from your readings. Approaches to the games. Bankroll info. Which games are right for you. To cover or not to cover. etc....

This site has book recommendations as well. Don't plan to make a bundle or a living. If you want to be an educated player, study, practice and play.

This is actually a series of books. Each book relates to a specific number of decks in place of the X. I have "Beat the 8-Deck Game" which is a large format paperback of 64 pages. There are 13 pages of introduction and explanation, followed by 44 pages of charts analyzing the results of using various betting schemes at different penetration levels. An Appendix takes up the last six pages.
It's fine for a book copyrighted 1987, and it's cheap. I paid $2.00 for mine.
But, in my opinion, there are much better ways these days to get the information, and a lot more, from newer books, and especially from sophisticated software such as QFIT's CVCX and John Auston's Blackjack Risk Manager. They aren't cheap, but worth the money if you are serious.

I have those books. All the info can be generated by SBA. The main difference those books made in my game was seeing how infrequently the higher accounts occurred causing me to ramp my bet spread up faster at the lower counts.

...you can never stop reading and learning. Once you get the count down pat, you can move on to learning anything and everything about casino gambling, attitude and on and on, ad infinitum . You would be surprized what you can learn in POKER magazines that apply to all sorts of A.P. including blackjack. A good example is Mike Caro's weekly columns.

Just remember, Tiger Woods is arguably the greatest golfer of the current crew, if not of all time, but even he still takes lessons on a regular basis. And all those pro-team athletes who are paid millions to play games we used to play in the school yard for free, constantly practice to improve their skills. Good luck and keep reading.

I know I can never stop learning. But the more I read, the more confused I get at times. I keep reading about different play styles, strategies, counting methods, and so on. I just think I need to find something that works for me and start using it. However, because several people (everyone) in my life have commented on how "obsessed" I've suddenly become with blackjack I've backed off over the last few weeks. I fired up CVBJ today for the first time in a week and a half to two weeks. I got through 4 different 6-deck shoes fairly quickly with a minimal amount of errors for betting and playing. I guess I needed some time to just let things "sink in." I made a few errors intentionally, to see what would happen with the "heat meter." And also playing with the idea of not jumping bets without a win, and only chipping up or parlaying bets, while not dropping bets without a loss.

Overall, it's good stuff. I made flashcards that I will never stop using. And I'll never stop practicing. I just don't want to put too much stuff into my head because I know I tend to over-analyze things and confuse otherwise straightforward situations.
