Look for better penetration
ms069279,
One solution is for you to find an 8-deck game with better penetration. For example, for an 8D, H17, DAS game with 4 total players, the fraction of hands with a RC of +4 or higher (thus, max bet) as well as the fraction of hands with a RC of -5 or lower (thus, min bet) varies with the cut-card location as follows, according to CVCX:
Decks RC>=+4 RC<=-5
7.00 6.5% 78.5%
6.50 5.1% 82.0%
6.00 3.9% 85.2%
5.50 2.9% 88.0%
5.00 2.1% 90.5%
.
Here, "Decks" is the number of decks in front of the cut card, so a value of 7.00 means that the cut card is placed only one deck from the back of the shoe, and the dealer will deal 7 (actually slightly more, since she'll finish the round on which the cut card appears) decks before shuffling.
Thus, as you can see, if you find a 7/8 game, you'll place your max bet approximately three times as often as you will for a lousy 5/8 game.
However, you can see that, even in a very well-cut 7/8 game, you're still placing your minimum bet nearly 80% of the time, while for a poorly-cut 5/8 game you are minimum betting over 90% of the time... such is the life of the 8-deck counter :-(
Hope this helps!
