John Patrick at it again!

Travel channel did an hour on Atlantic City this evening. Of course John Patrick was at it again. He was telling the world that he's the world's best gambler. He was instructing some young ladies on how to play BJ. "Never", he says, " split 8's against a 10". His bullshit is honed to a razor sharp edge and these people bought it totally. I can see how he gets his message across. He comes across as very authoritative and somewhat intimidating. He had these ploppies in the palm of his hand.

Or in his closest circles, John "pimpled ass" Patrick, is a high ranking member of the Ploppy mafia, a faction of Ploppy nation gone against traditional ploppy code by uncovering many ploppy secrets for his own personal gain. Intimidating, over-bearing, manipulative, and if you get too close he could get violent. He has been known to use violence on unwilling gamblers. I have seen him strike out with his plop-mantis kung-fu grip and choke a man into submission for mentioning Stanford Wong's name. Approach with caution. SUPER PLOPPY has no affiliation with this madman.

Assuming all things being equal, what would be the advantage of splitting 8's versus dealer's 10 would be mathematically speaking... any idea? Does that convert a winner into a loser? Do you think John Patrick does not know about it?

I myself, wouldn't have bothered to go that far and make an assessment or approximation as to its value. In the larger scheme of the game of bj, I would rather be attentive to areas that mean a lot more important (unique to myself) than linger on that kind of detail. As you said, we don't need to be concerned on what the long term sims indicate. Nobody will be faced with that kind of problem in the first place except what is envisaged by the unexperienced and those with arrogance of a bit of knowledge. A little knowledge could be dangerous, especially to those with little experience.

Actually the index is +6.5*, using the count system recommended for my tables. So I will make the right decision more often than you will. And while it may not be very often, all these little slivers add up in the long run.

i remember seeing John Patrick info-mercials several years ago. the guy's pathetic. as long as he doesn't promise people that they have a statistical advantage playing with his methods, i don't mind. heck, maybe the JP method is really really fun and worth losing your money on. hell if i'll ever know.

In a 5 billion hand sim in QFIT�s CVData (Casino Verite), single deck, 8+8 v 10 comes up 0.143% of the time (1.43 times per 1000 hands, a little less than three times per 20 hours of casino play at 100 hands an hour. The IBA (initial bet advantage) for this hand is a negative 26.77%. We split 8+8 because 16 is a rotten hand.

If a ploppie sops up Patrick's BS and wastes his money with it just as fast as a ploppie without it would, that's fine with me. If someone doesn't rationalize what he's being told, that's his problem... Powerful counting systems simply make sense to anyone who spends the time rationalizing why they do and those who don't do so essentially get what they deserve.

If I'm at a table with a bunch of Patrick's disciples, they just make the venue profitable and the games good for me.. without them, I'd be worse off.

If anybody out there has a problem with this (my concern for others) then consider the house-wife who gets up earlier than her lazy brethern, scopes out the one-day sales, and clears the racks at the Kmart before the competition gets to the store.. I certainly wouldn't fault her for being glad the other ladies don't subscribe to the paper but I would fault her for stealing it off their porch.
