Hey everyone -- Does anyone know of any good drilling software for Texas Hold 'Em? I'm hoping to find something of quality similar to CVBJ or the like, at least in terms of user interface, graphics, and speed.
Practicing at the poker room websites is completely useless as there is never any realistic betting from the morons who use the play money features.
Any help is appreciated.
Try Wilson's Turbo Hold'em. They have a demo online you can download and determine if it meets your needs.

By the way, anyone have any good Hold 'Em book suggestions? I've already read Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em by Lee Jones and Internet Texas Hold 'Em by Matthew Hilger. Any additional suggestions are appreciated.
I've pulled back on BlackJack as I can't find any good games here in WA. I'll still play occasionally, but I've been winning much more at Poker than I ever did at BlackJack. I tend to play slow and aggressive, which has been paying off. I'd say I'm a good poker player, but I want to be excellent.

...anything by Sklanksy is going to be excellent information. Alot of the thinking is much higher level and sometimes difficult to follow if you have not been playing for a few years, but some of his beginner books are excellent. On a beginner level, I also found Ken Warren's "Winner's Guide to Texas Holdem" an excellent book that is well laid out (I also have lees book, another good one). Not sure what limit you are playing, but if you are playing in the 8-16 or above level, Theory of Poker by Sklanksy is a must read as well as his advanced holdem book. The previous two books will do nothing for you on the lower limits, as you probably already know by reading lees book, they are for an entirely different game.
By the way, I have found myself slipping back into poker as I am attempting to take advantage of "The Golden Age of Poker" as it is being termed. Lucky for me, I get to have both worlds, there is still some good blackjack here:)

I'd heard Sklansky's were the bible for serious players. I'll definitely pick some up.
I'm actually a pretty good Hold Em player. I just want to become excellent. Because of all the publicity poker is getting lately on all the TV stations, there are a lot of mediocre to just plain bad players jumping in all over the place, as I'm sure you know. They're money is just waiting to be snatched, and I want to be there to snatch it! I won what was to me a small fortune at low limit hold em online this past weekend with only a few hours play. Much more than I make playing Blackjack.
I love Blackjack, but I have more fun playing poker. Plus you don't have to worry about that tap on the shoulder and all that.

Agreed, in an attempt to both take advantage of the greatest easy money in poker since hold em was first spread in LA in the early 70s (and at the ripe age of two, was too damn young to enojy it) I have been splitting time between BJ and poker. Plus, the BJ games that are good enough to play where I am are few, and its just too damn hard to resist going into the honey pot. Getting barred is one thing, but whats worse is when they take away one of only ten really good tables in the area. In vegas I pretty much play BJ full time, but here I need poker to take my attention away from the good BJ so I do not make them go away:)..As far as fun, to me it depends on the table in both cases.
If it is an awful (boring, smelly, stupid people) table in both BJ and Poker, then it turns into business, I make my money and get the hell out of there. It's hard to find a better time then sitting at a table (BJ or Poker) where you know youve got the best of it, and it is fun on top of it...getting paid to enjoy yourself...what a life...
