Floating advantage

I know this is an advanced topic.

I'm reading John May's Get the Edge at Blackjack. He mentioned floating advantage several times but I don't know what it means.

Could anyone explain it in one paragraph? Thanks.

The tendency of a particular true count to become more valuable at deeper penetration. A TC of +2 is worth slightly more with 1 deck remaining than 3.

I think I can easily understand this. Consider the following example: at 6D off-the-top, house edge is 0.55%; at 2D off-the-top, house edge is 0.32%. They are both TC = 0 with balanced count. With this in mind, I have the conclusion that unbalanced count is more descriptive than balanced count. I'm now using Knock-Out. I like its simplicity and beauty.

in the games you describe, a 6D game off the top has a house edge of 0.55%, but a six deck game with 4 decks gone (2 decks left) and a TC/RC of 0 has the two deck BSE of 0.32%. I think the floating advantage is really a representation of the effect on BSE of fewer and fewer decks at neutral counts. For example...a S17 DAS double deck game with 0.19% house edge with 1 deck left and TC/RC=0 now has a house edge of a S17 DAS single deck game or player edge of 0.13%. So, in a 2D game with S17 DAS rules the player actually has an edge at a neutral count with 1 deck left to play. This is the floating advantage.

Please read Blackjack Attack. Floating Advantage does exist. But it is hardly something to worry about at anybody's playing level. Purely theoretical.
