Bootlegger writing a book?

Bootlegger, I heard from another site that you are writing a book. Is this true and my question is, why? I really don't think this world needs another blackjack book. There are far too many books out there that are SOS (same old *&^%). I fully expect your book to join that group.

As much as I criticize JM/GBV, I will praise him for the originality. There were things discussed in his book that had never been published and had never appeared public online. For these reasons, May's book isn't in the SOS category and is probably the best book there is on alternative methods at blackjack.

However, I cannot say the same for yourself since you are unoriginal and don't have the ability to produce new work or ideas. You appear to have a solid general understanding of basics but are ignorant of anything other than card counting. My god, you are planning to write a book and haven't even read the best book on advantage play there is: Beyond Counting.

I ask you to reconsider your position and think what it will add to the advantage player's knowledge.

It is interesting that you have condemned a book that I haven't even finished yet. However, you don't have to buy it when it comes out.

I have read your posts and agree with your methods of attacking the game of Blackjack.

btw, Isn't John May one of those "BS" writers that promotes hocus-pocus logic and arithmetic?

He is a serious writer who has his own style and theories. He doesn't get along with some of the folks in the community, but I wouldn't call him a BS writer.

I have benefited from your advice many times and I'm sure you've got more to say. I'll take the other side and praise your book before it is written.

Too many Blackjack books emphasize the counting skills and math and short-change the discipline really needed to win. If you could devote a chapter to the set of mental skills necessary, it would be of tremendous value to me.

Please differentiate the needs of the recreational player from that of the seasoned pro. I think if a beginner gets ahead of himself he doesn't take care of the basics.

Another helpful thing that you might add is a record keeping system. I wish I had kept notes from the start, it would have helped me avoid repeating mistakes!

As for whether the world needs more Blackjack books- Yes! If for no other reason than to pull up the ratio of good ones. Let us know when it is available!

It would appear to be a little short-sighted on your part to judge a publication prior to its creation. Bootlegger has for several years posted on this site with positive comments and ideas, I've enjoyed his many posts and have learned much from him. He has answered questions from newbies and pros with the same impeccable demeanor, never condescending and in a manner easy to read and understand.

You on the other hand appear to have an axe to grind I really don't think this world needs another blackjack book...well, never know, you just might learn something. I trust you don't sway towards the John Patrick side of the fence!

I particularly appreciate his knowledge of K-O, Fuchs and Vancura have left certain issues to interpretation, which Boot has clarified on several occasions. I hope he includes much of his K-O knowledge in his writings.

Not only has he made solid and viable posts on this subject, but has posted extensively on green-chip on a host of issues pertaining to the game. If you are a green-chipper you can enjoy his archived posts as well as one of mine.

Lighten up, it's Christmas...when the book is published, if you think it's trash, then you can vent. I seriously doubt it'll be anywhere near what you think.

This site has many posters who criticize books they haven't read, but you might be the first poster to criticize a book that hasn't been published! Congratulations!

Please don't be deterred writing your book. There is no reason to listen to voices that are negative in writing any book... in any subject. iMO, discouraging people to write books is almost like preventing freedom of expression.

As to the subject, one is free to chose whatever the subject. I, myself like to see more on subjects that deal more what's on the personal side of the equation. The challenge is more on the discipline and self-control than what can be achieved by cc or knowing more about the mechanics of the game. After all, it is a game of hazard and no matter how good your knowledge about the game, you could be humbled to see another person next to you to win by sheer luck. After all, hasn't making a career of bj demonstrated amply that it is more hazardous to one's financial and emotional health than playing for entertainment?

Good luck with your project. I wouldn't be critical writing a book about bj as any book in any area has the potential of revealing some additional insight on the subject by assuming that the author has benefitted from a serious research of all or most of the books written before. Good luck.

If I heard you were coming out with a new book that hasn't been published, do I need to read it to call it garbage? Of course not. I have seen your silly posts and have heard the contents of your silly books.

The same goes for Bootlegger. Unlike you, he won't be selling phony systems that defraud the public. However, based on his posts, I expect it to be oriented towards the novice with nothing new.

For those people who have some interesting, original things to say, go for it, if you don't mind the low ROI.

If it's the SOS, don't take a crap.

Especially if it's written by a known knowledgeable poster like Boot. If I can pick up one good bj idea from a book, I consider my money well spent. Go for it, Boot!

Haven't seen you post for a long long time!

You gave me the same advice last year, hehe. I was going to do one on practical tracking methods, international play, etc. Remember?

Decided to spend more time playing instead.

Most people won't be able to count sufficiently well to track and the information on foreign games, cover and travelling with cash will burn these places out.

But I always welcome anyone who is willing to contribute their knowledge to us.

I have the same concern that you have and it was the first thought that crossed my mind when I was approached by the publisher to write the book. Do I have anything new to offer?

My book will be primarily designed for a person who is new to the casino and new to blackjack and card counting. It is very possible that an experienced advantage player will learn nothing new from what I write. It will be in two main parts. One is for a player who doesn't want to learn to count cards, but would like to enjoy the casinos and who can learn to take advantage of the comping system and certain advantage situations that are often present for those who know what to look for. The second part will be for those who wish to learn how to count. It will contain information and advice about how to do it and how to survive. Along the way, I will be including anecdotes that are intended to be instructive and entertaining and maybe even a little bit humorous.

I hope I will be able to instruct and entertain.

Just post mostly on the green pages. There are enough posters on these pages with good and more knowledgeable advice, so I don't feel compelled to add my voice.

Perhaps I will have a change of heart. Many newcomers commonly ask what is the best first book on blackjack. Since you are orienting this book towards the beginner, try to make it one of the best 'first books.' Next time someone wants to know where to start, people can refer them to your book. I have always felt Fundamentals of Blackjack was the best, but it's 10 years old and may be too technical as a starter book. K-O blackjack is good and same with Smart Casino Gambling.

Do you know what it will be titled and do you have any idea when it will get done?
