Backed off at Reno Peppermill

Well, it had to happen sometime .... my first ever backoff.

Up in Reno for the weekend. Staying free at Peppermill, with mostly free food and free tix to Diana Krall concert. Won about $600 spreading $5-50 Friday night & Saturday night ... really only played about 3 hours.

Woke up early Sunday morning, and went down to play a little before breakfast, while my wife slept a little longer. Played about 45 minutes, and was basically even, and got 86'd ... so much for my Peppermill freebies!!

Went up to Siena and won some more on the way out of town, at least ...

Peppermill has always had the best surveillance crew in Reno. It is a stupid misuse of resources for them to be ordered to concentrate on spotting tiny-stakes counters. They should be concentrating on internal theft and other serious threats to the casino's bottom line. But Peppermill has always been this way, having zero tolerance for brain usage at its tables regardless of how small the stakes. Anonymous play in short sessions is the remedy for the excessive and misplaced Peppermill paranoia.

You were not 86'ed. You were backed off for "being too good." You can come back to the Peppermill, but if you play Blackjack again (they have your photo) you will be 86'ed. If you come back and play after this, you will be arrested for trespass.

I suggest you improve your camouflage. If you don't know what this is, then you have no business on the tables. Good luck...you're going to need it.

There is a tiny chance of an 86'ing and subsequent arrest, but it is unlikely. I have been backed off at Peppermill many times over the years, but never 86'd. I play at stakes much higher than the original poster. Friends have been backed off there many times, but never 86'd.

As I mentioned in a post above, it's a stupid waste of Peppermill's resources to have its surveillance folks focusing on tiny-stakes players, while internal theft and other serious problems could be swirling about unnoticed.

My advice to GoalieaDad is to stay away from Peppermill for a couple of months, and the shift on which the backoff occurred for at least six months. Peppermill backs off so many people, they cannot possibly remember them all. The photo will soon be buried in the pile. Upon return, play anonymous short sessions. Never again cash chips at the Peppermill cage; keep them in chip inventory, or cash them at other casinos. Also see the link below. In fairness to Peppermill, its backoffs are more professional than most. Rarely are security goons involved, it is usually just a suit politely delivering the message.

What you said has been absolutely true; however, I know for a fact the Reno P-Mill is now "cracking down" on counters (the local economy has contributed to their 'sweating money') and have been (not so) friendly towards those who ignore a Trespass warning. In their mind, it's simply a matter of their right to refuse service to anyone...once you are issued a notice of Trespass (and you return) you will be subject to arrest and/or citation under NRS 207.200.

Bottom line...if you feel lucky, go for it.

Incidentally, I was backed-off there in the mid 80's betting light green.

This is certainly a dubious distinction as they are quick to give "the tap" to anyone who knows how to play BJ.
