Ace-5 count compaired to Hi-lo for the beginner level...

So easy a fifth grader could learn apply and play for a lifetime on just his allowance.

With the ace five count you only give the 5 and ace a value; 5=+1 ace=-1. I use this for the 4 or 5 people I teach a year as a starting point because of its simplicity. Also true count conversion is not need, especially in a dd or sd game, increasing the simplicity of it. I forgot what the advantage of this strategy is... anyone. I know that people with authority on this strategy recommend to bet like this for average gambler cover... +1 1 unit, +2 2 units, +3 3 units, +4 4 units. But Since in multi-deck game you dont have the advantage until + 3 or 4 I tell my students to bet like this, +1 $5, +2 $5, +3 $30, +4 $40, so they decrease there loses thus increase there profit, (remember I tell my students to bet like this because of there usual small bankrolls until they are ready for more complicated strategy a real profit). Not a bad way to play for a small long term advantage if all you want to do is have fun and get everything comped is it. I personally use a 1-6 bet spread with a min. of $50 on dd and sd games with this strategy. Comments welcome

I ran a CVCX sim for a DD player using the Ace-5 count for betting, and playing B.S. For a heads-up player at a DD, H17, DAS game with 39 cards cut off (so 62.5% pen), a $200K BR will allow a spread of $52 to $312 (1:6) with a 13.6% Risk of Ruin and a Win Rate of $12.27/hr. If you're curious, the SCORE of this game is a whopping 0.61. By the way, CVCX suggests betting $52 at RC<=+1, and $312 at RC>=+2, so at least the ramp is simple ;-)

As a comparison, if we change the strategy to HiLo with full indexes and keep the RoR approximately the same, our $200K BR permits a spread of $399 to $2394 (1:6) with a WR of $754.60/hr and a SCORE of 37.76.

I'd suggest that the "extra" $740/hr WR is worth the effort of learning HiLo ;-)

By the way, instead of the dreadful Ace-5 count, if you teach your proteges the REKO count, they'll be able to make $601.05/hr each with their $200K BR's.

Sorry if it sounded like a insult or something along those lines... Those numbers just seem crazy for the ace five count strategy. its seems like he got 200k mixed up... It actually made me laugh... nothing intended

to have fun and extend your usual play and maybe have a standard deviation higher than just the basic player or average player I would give you a basic strategy card and work with you on the ace five count for about 15 minutes. In that 15 minutes you learn to take just basic strategy and gain a small edge over the casino... thats why...

In my post, I mentioned that I used CVCX. For those who don't know, CVCX is one of the excellent blackjack analysis tools available from QFIT.com: see link below. In my humble opinion, this program is well worth the $85 price tag.

The problem with the Ace-5 count is that, even with a relatively good game (DD, H17, DAS, 62.5% pen, heads up), a 1:6 spread is just barely above break-even: in fact, the IBA is a paltry 0.129%. You mentioned using a 1:6 spread on this game (actually, you just said DD, without giving any other details, so I guessed at the other rules and parameters) with a $50 minimum bet, so using CVCX I found that at full Kelly, you'd need a $200,000 BR to permit $50 (actually $52) minimum bets. Your average bet with the optimum scheme it provides ($52 at RC<=+1, $312 at RC>=+2) is $95.09, so your hourly win rate (assuming the standard 100 rounds/hr) is then (100 rounds/hr)*($95.09/round)*(0.129%) = $12.26661/hr.

If you want a better system for betting (while still using B.S. for playing), try KO Rookie. On the game in question, a 1:6 spread gives an IBA of 0.580%. A $200K BR then allows a spread of $235 to $1410, an average bet of $493.99, and a win rate of $286.57/hr: over an order of magnitude better than the Ace-5 count.
