Not One Best Answer....
For example, if you only get to LV once a year, and especially if you do not shop in chain stores, i.e., casinos that have properties in your home "zone", then many would suggest to spread away to your heart's, bankroll's, and Count's content. If they back you off, do not make a scene (You want them to forget you by next year), exit, and walk "a few doors down"...best not to walk next-door, just in case.
If you shop chain stores, visit frequently, etc. then you obviously must be more subtle.
In LV, I have never had a problem with a 6:1 spread on DD, though have been asked to not play BJ with a 3:1 spread in SD. Would suggest that a 1:8 ramp, especially if done repetively, is going to draw some unwanted attention.
For 6D, I usually start with my "neutral" bet of about 1/3 my Max., such as $25. if I want to spread $5-75. If the Ct. goes neg., I ramp down QUICKLY! If the Ct. goes pos., I ramp up SLOWLY. Since changes in 6D are usually slow anyhow, you will not be jumping your bets very much each hand.
For DD, and for SD when allowed, jumping from 1-2 hands is another ploy that I often use with little trouble. For example, start out with two hands of 2 units each. Drop to one hand of 1 unit in neg. cts., and 2 hands of 3-4 when appropriately pos.
Hope these ideas help.
