I've been reading "Professional Blackjack" to learn about counting. But here's something that bothers me. Maybe I'm just not getting it since I'm so green.
The statistical win rates, if I'm understanding them, are really disappointing. If I play a typical 6-deck shoe with decent rules, and I count the cards (high-low) and play correctly, betting an average of $26.54, I can expect to win at a rate of about $16 to $25 per hour of play? If I find a really good game, I can bump this up to, what, $39 or so? And if I spend a lot of time and perfect the halves count, I can add a few dollars per hour?
So, If I play for 10 straight hours, I can expect (statistically) to win about $160 to $400? Please tell me I'm wrong. That's no way to get rich. It seems the only way to make it worth while is to increase the bet-size to something like $100 at negative counts, $250 at +1, $500 at +2, $750 at +3 and $1000 at +4 or above. Is that the answer?
I appreciate your help on this.
