Understanding The Theory of Blackjack

I am reading, well trying to read Peter A. Griffin's The Theory of Blackjack.

I've made it to the Appendix to chapter 3 and I am sitting here with the "Deer in the headlights look". Any math text books I should work through to understand what�s going on here or web reference�s so and can comprehend what I am looking at?

Or should I just keep on reading and leave the math for another time?
This stuff is out of my league, Grade 12 was the furthest I went with math. I want to understand, I just don�t have the background to understand it. Any help appreciated
