Assuming you can get away with splitting tens against dealers 4,5,6, then is it always best to split at the reccomended index for the counting system you are using?
When playing heads up - two boxes against the dealer, the effect of taking extra cards in high counts, and hence reducing the number of favourable rounds, will be more pronounced than at a full table. In this case surely a higher index, taking into account the reduction in e.v. due to using extra cards, than those worked out purely for that particular hand is applicable.
As an extreme case, take for instance in a shoe game, true count is +10 on hi-lo, you are dealt 2 hands of 2*10, dealer has six, you know there is only about 4 cards left before the shuffle. If you stand you should get one more round with e.v of ~ 5% of outlay on each hand. If you were to split both hands, would the increase in e.v for that round make up for not getting another round?
