Parker or anybody?

I'm used to working on a windows environment but found that it's restricting me, and so I'm thinking of going for freedom and neglect it. Put on Linux instead but I have zero experience in working with Linux, any books, websites, tutors I can turn to for some idea before I venture into Linux?
