Is A Fake Driver's License Illegal?

In some states? Even if there is no "defrauding" going on?

If so, in theory one could show a fakey to the player's club, or hotel clerk, they grab it and call the ever-on-duty state police officer, and one gets a misdemeanor arrest in a jiffy, fingerprints in the database, bail...

Am I right about that? Has it ever happened to anyone? Is there any surefire way around it?
