confusion about playing 2 hands

For the advanced omega 2 count the author recomends a 1-8 spread for a 6 deck game. There are numbers in the book telling you when to bet 2 units, more than 2 units, and 8 units. I've read instead of going from 2 units to 4 units its better to play 2 hands of 2 units each. You have the same amount of money on the table but will your expectation be exactly the same? If so it seems not a good idea since it uses up more cards. So with a 1-8 spread in a 6 deck game what would be the best betting strategy to follow? What is your max bet for 2 hands when the index says bet 8 units?
