A recent article in the local Las Vegas newspaper mentioned the rumor that the new Wynn hotel will be very restrictive on comps. So restrictive as to require many hours of black action to qualify for anything.
Players have acted like trained seals automatically toking for too many years. Why bother toking if there is a decreasingly smaller and smaller benefit? Many still do. After a reasonable playing session more and more players requesting a comp get an excuse and are treated like beggars. Why give money to their employees when they give you almost nothing in return? Toking adds up to quite a bit. This should be the view of all non counters for certain. Counters as well should adopt this attitude. Those who think it keeps off the heat have little to go on. Heat in the bigger games has nothing to do with toking. In the smaller games, it also has overrated value to your longevity as they are more concerned with your results and how well you play. In todays game, most of the time players in question are being skill checked by computer and other methods. Toking means nothing, nor does dealer opinions of your play.
Even years ago, I used to get sneered at frequently because I was not a large toker to the dealers and only gave the girl a $1 for a "free" bottled water. I gave up toking long ago when even red chip tokes at $300 or $500 minimum games often didn't even qualify for a thank you. Where else would many of these ungrateful, mostly uneducated people get these amounts in any other job? I feel much better giving that money to the guys outside who may need a meal. They ALWAYS say thank you. I hear other players complain more and more that even black action for a half hour does not even get them a buffet. It is getting to be ridiculous.
Additionally, many do not also realize that many hotels (such as the Venetian) actually put in their comp value ratio the skill of the players. Being thought to be a reasonable player further hurts your ability to get comped. Keep your money, stop toking, and feel better about everything.
