short rebuttal
There was nothing insulting in my post, with the possible exception of my assumption that money was the issue. I can see that this is not so.
The free page is lively and evidently is still filled with great contributions from green chip members. I like the new format, since it streamlines my searches. I think there is still a lot to be found on the free page, but now it has it's own character and is not a mimicry of the green pages.
Stanford has often said that the primary source of income for BJ21 is memberships and retail sales, not advertising. If an outgrowth of the new format is increased memberships for green chip, so much the better. Green chip is exactly the same as before, but with more pages than before since Green Chip members voted for 'Vegas Life' and 'Books and Software' to be continued on the green pages, instead of being assimilated into other forums.
All I am saying is enjoy your free page, but please don't insult Stanford while you partake. It still pisses me off that people insult him with being greedy....I was not just referring to your observations. He has plenty of hits going on on SharpSportsbetting.com and I seriously doubt that his decisions, with lots of input from green chippers, were primarily guided by profit. Before the changes it was a lot like administering two complete sites, with the attendant doubled heachaches and workload. If this new format means you have to be a member, at least you can be a member for free. I joined green chip a year ago because I sought more specific and focused advise....it has since paid off handsomely. There are some amazing players who regularly contribute on green chip.
I don't think you should feel guilty, I am just suggesting that the green chip pages are a bargain. If Stanford wanted to maximize profits he would also sell advertising on the green pages. This is not the case.
If you are an occasional player who is looking for entertaining and often surprisingly helpful posts from more dedicated players, then my opinion is that the free pages are an excellent find. You can express your opinions freely and be a part of the mix without any commitment other than offering an e-mail address. I hope you get past the disappointment you feel about the new format and have a good time here. No topic is considered out of bounds, even discussions about the loss of information to free members who are occasional players but fans of the game, none the less.
