Hi i used to be a blackjack player but i had it give it up , i was losing too much.Now i'm switching to video poker game ,and i have a couple questions. is video poker better than playing regular poker among other players? also before i'll get myself fully involved with video poker , do you guys have any good ideas of can you please recommend me a good book or a site for me to learn the game ? meanwhile i've been cheching video poker sites so far im doing ok but i know the i got to get all the infomation that i can in order for me to be a winner at this game.

But, like Math Boy implied, losing is more common in VP than in BJ. In blackjack, you have a better than 50% chance of being ahead after one hour of play. In a good VP game like full pay deuces wild, you need to play 50 hours before you have a 50% chance of being ahead.

Look for full pay JOB with a progressive plus a very good players club point system. I often play at a 3 to 4 % edge at these games due to the large progressive.

There are for sure good opportunities at VP if you know how to take advantage.

I play VP and blackjack exclusively and I can tell you, VP is MUCH more volatile than BJ.

Remember that when a VP game like JoB pays back 99.54%, that includes the royal and the straight flush, neither of which are you very likely to hit in any given session of a few hours or so. Without those two hands, the payback is more like 97.5% (even that assumes you get your fair share of quads, full houses, etc.). It also assumes you have mastered near perfect stategy for the game which involves a non-trivial investment of your time and effort.

That 2.5% is a LOT higher than the typical BJ house edge and your bankroll can really get drained while you're waiting to hit the big hand at VP. Playing JoB with perfect strategy, you "expect" to hit a royal about every 40,000 hands, but what if you don't? You could easily go 100,000 hands or more with no royal. Bye bye bankroll!

VP is a great game (especially for earning comps) but don't kid yourself. It's a real roller coaster ride and hardly a sure bet to make you money at the casino's expense.
