upcard 2 vs 2,2 rookie here

in stanfords book basic bj page 30 generic basic strategy chart it says hit the dealer 2 and 3, split 4 thru 7 and to hit 6,9,10 and A. i printed out a his school paper on this website lesson 1, it has a chart that says split 2 thru 7, o/w hit. i made flash cards and have been practicing then look at the chart and saw the different answer, am i missing something?

about 10 to 15 years ago there was an advertisement here in the san diego paper about a blackjack school, i never went to it but saved the newspaper clipping, but i bought some bj books from the store, bj a winners handbook by jerry l. patterson, beat the dealer by edward thorp, and another book by cordoza. after that they sat in a box and maybe once every few years i would look at them and say maybe i will try it later. the last few weeks i have been reading those books, practising the flashcardS and going thru the deck of cards + - or 0, i have a way to go, but i have been practicing 2 times a day for 1 to 1.5 hrs each time. also i ordered and received bj secrets, professional bj and basic bj by s. wong, i got them in about 3 days after i placed the order

The hitting, instead of splitting your 2,2 vs dealer 2 or 3 sounds like a game where DAS (double after split) is not allowed. If double after split is allowed you split.

Your Jerry Patterson book should be thrown away and not read. I am not sure about your Cordoza book?
Thorp is a good read but the games he played no longer exist.

The books you just ordered are the ones you should concentrate on.

I have my extremely dogeared copy of Professional Blackjack before me. You are right. Page 26, Table 1, for 2-2 it says hit against a 2 or a 3. That is where the house rules dictate no double is allowed after split if you look at the line just below "Player's Hand". Look at page 27, again right below "Player's Hand", and you see the chart where double after split is allowed. There you split 2-2 against a 2 0r a 3. The differences are because of the different double after split rules, one allowing it, the other not.
The hit on both charts for 2-2 against 8,9,T and A and you would do that for either rule,

Excellent reply! If you are losing big and down to your last bet or so make sure you have enough for: INS,DBL,SP,& the monster plays: re-splits and doubles :)

I was losing big and in a very positive count, probably over betting my advantage, I placed a $500 bet and got an 11 vs. 10. I only had $250 left so I doubled for less and let someone else take the other $250. Of course, I got the ten and won the hand. What really pissed me off was that I had the other $250 in my wallet (but forgot about it since it was "real," not gambling money). I rarely carry that much "real" money around. So my discipline of separating the two kinds of money hurt me this time.
