Underbetting Bankroll

All,
If you underbet your bankroll, or don't use a Kelly betting system, can you win in the long run? I have a full time job so my bankroll is always increasing, but I feel that if I'm underbetting the points that are super advantageous to me I will possibly have a negative EV. I play strictly single deck and I'm familiar with depth charging, so maybe my previous statement doesn't really make sense. Is this why in 6-deck you have to maintain such a large bet spread (to sufficiently utilize higher counts)?

Yes you can win.
If you bet significantly less than Kelly you decrease the
fluctuations to your bankroll, which is actually a good thing.
What determines whether you "win in the long run" is simply given
by the sum of each hand's EV -- if you bet enough more on the
positive EV hands you win in the long run. Unless you "go broke"
meaning have a fluctuation so low that you can no longer play.

It sounds like you still need to get an understanding of what EV
is -- read carefully a standard book, like Wong's "Professional
Blackjack", or for basic theory even better Peter Griffin's
"Theory of Blackjack" -- this one especially if you really do
play single deck. It sounds like you are on the right track;
in single deck you need much less spread than in 6 deck.

Yea your understanding of EV is way off,if you have an advantage no matter how small it is an advantage,lets say a .001% advantage,doesn't matter what you bet you will always have that advantage,it cannot be neg EV.

Kelly betting is betting the correct proportion of your BR to maximise your win rate and protect you against busting out.

If you bet more than the kelly fraction you will win faster but can bust a lot sooner,if you bet less you will win slower but would take a lot longer to bust out.

since you are working full time and can add to your bank roll you may as well bet full kelly if you can handle the swings,it is all about your tolerances I suppose.

I think I understand the concept of EV, but my concern is that the %40 of the time I have the advantage during single deck games will be cancelled out by the rest of the time when I don't have an advantage. Thanks for the Kelly betting suggestion, but I'm only close to 4 or 5 casinos with single deck, so longevity is much more prevalent than bankroll increase. I also plan on playing 100+ hours at red-chip level to verify I know what I'm doing. This is conveniently the required time to expose the advantage from playing H17 single deck with a 1-4 bet spread. If anyone has any ideas on how to keep myself welcome at the same 4 casinos (which are pretty large, 30+ tables) please provide any suggestions.

Currently, my plan is to play eight hours a day ( 4 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon) in 1/2 hour increments at each casino. Since I'm only playing red, I think I can probably get away with this for at least six months. I will milk the comps scenario for all it is worth and after the six months, I should have around 400 hours of play. At this point, Vegas, Reno, and Tahoe here we come with Green Chips. I will probably play at the same 4 casinos with Green Chips, but I suspect at this point I and my bet range will be known a little bit.
