and it's not a hype story. What the MIT Teams accomplished in the 90s was unbelievable. Those guys took the casinos for millions. That is a well known fact. MIT took teamplay to a whole another level. What makes it so hard to believe is they got away with it for quite some time before the casinos finally caught on.

I look forward to watching the movie. It should be entertaining if it is anything like Bringing Down the House.

I'm not sure why you keep asking this question on this page. Unless someone here is associated with the people making the movie (if one is actually being made), why would they have any more knowledge about this than the next fellow? You keep asking as if somebody has inside knowledge. I don't think anyone here does.

Yes and no. There was certainly hype in the book, not neccessarily a bad thing IMHO if not too downright misleading. A little dramatic licence makes things more fun.
I don't agree what they did was unbelievable. They were bankrolled to a very high level. The return on investment wasn't that fantastic. Most of the money went to the investors (though this included team members).
Most of the ideas they used were tried and tested. I don't think they claimed to have taken team play to a whole new level.

It would probably make an entertaining film but I doubt it will happen. It will be one of these film ideas that never get made like MDBJ and a trillion other scripts in-waiting at Hollywood production houses.

MIT did take team play to another level...believe it or not. Think about it for a minute. When Ken Uston used team play, the casinos were unaware of this method. So the Uston teams had the advantage in that respect. The Big Player/spotter technique was already around for decades when the MIT teams arrived on the scene. The casinos were well informed on what to look for and how to catch it. Nevertheless, these college kids were able to pull off their act and get away with betting $10K a hand(sometimes multiple hands) while appearing to just look like lucky high rollers. If you think the pit sweats black action, how do you think they would feel about BUMBLEBEE action!!

What REALLY makes their story unbelievable is that these college kids were attending one of the top schools in the nation(perhaps the world) and still had time to play blackjack in Vegas during the weekend. MIT is not an easy institution. You have to work your tail off to pass a class. Exceling in the casino as well as the classroom is no easy feat. The MIT players are some of the best in the world.

I thought the book was a fun read.

But I wouldn't get carried away. There are many true stories of gamblers in various fields who built up a bankroll from literally nothing. The MIT team built up a bankroll from what was already a considerable fortune. You could have made more money investing that in stocks towards the end the nineties (which were admittedly boom years).
Therefore I find it less impressive than other gambling stories. Whatever makes you happy I guess.

The great advantage/innovation that the MIT guys brought was an endless pool of smart new recruits who could learn to play well in a few short weeks. With the faces constantly changing the casinos were unable to detect their near constant presence. Now the casinos are on the lookout for such teams so I don't think they're model is workable anymore.
