table times?

Hi Everyone, apologies if this has been asked before. I subscribe to CBJN and find it pretty useful and interesting but I have a question or two.

I have not always seen the same results that are outlined in CBJN when I arrive at the casino. For example sometime back CBJN listed Luxor as having 2 double deck tables at min of $25. When I went to play I found the min to be $100. I realize that table rules can change at any moment and I don't blame CBJN in the least.

My question is, what time of day is one most likely to see tables open with the best rules? For instance I'm seeing in CBJN that a certain casino has 8 double deck tables at $25 min. What time of day am I most likely to see these tables open? Thanks for your help!

On that particular game, you will find the lower limit at off-hours, usually in the early mornings (5/6am to around 10/11am). The same holds true for shoe games. As grave shift ends and day shift begins, more tables are usually opened for play and the minimums usually, but not always, increase. Swing shift usually has the most action therefor the most tables open, as well as the highest limits. Note that shift changes occur at different times at different casinos.

CBJN tries to show the entire spread for all shifts for a particular game table and set of rules. You can use the above as a general guide.

Also, don't forget, if the table is empty you can always ask the floor person for a lower limit, within limits at off-hours.

Yes, Blackjack Attack is one of my Bibles, not for blood.

While I have your noble attention, have you ever heard of a reverse bet spread where you start a good game (2D, good rules) with, say, 4 units x 2 and keep that bet as long as the count stays positive/neutral, going down to 1 unit/leaving table at very poor counts?

Would there be less heat with a big bet every time off the top?

Such a big bet would likely be too costly, since the edge off the top is negative. A variation would be to bet just two units off the top, which might help you parlay up to four and higher more quickly, while not costing you nearly as much as what you're suggesting.
