Does anybody have the indice for when to surrender a pair of 8s versus a 9? I'd imagine such a thing exists when Verite tells me to surrender 8s versus a 10 at any positive running count. I'd assume there's also an indice for 8s versus Ace then ?

Well, if you have Casino Verite to calculate other indices, you can use it to calculate that one too. Or you can buy PBJ. Good luck.

Of course there's an index for surrendering 8,8 vs. 9. I'm not home this week and don't have access to my books, but I know that, for the RPC, you surrender 8,8 vs. 9 at TC >= +7.
Also, what difference does it make whether S17 or H17, when the dealer's upcards are 9, T, or Ace? THINK before you write!
Finally, to the OP, the index for surrendering 8,8 vs. T isn't 0. It's +2 for DAS and +1 for NDAS.

I just looked for an index in this book Professional Blackjack and found that Stanford Wong did provide an HiLo index for the hand 8,8vs9. His Split/Surrender number is TC=+7; however, his this number probably is off by 2, so I guess the correct one should be +9. I think Don is right.

Actually, the PBJ indices are NDAS and for 4 decks. For 6 decks, 88v9/NDAS = +8 and 88v9/DAS = +12.

There is only an index for the NDAS game of +8
For the DAS game, we can't see in the graph but I think there's a point where the split decision gets close to Surrender but then moves up again further from Surrender. The +12 CaC mentioned shoud be that point...
