Starting at age 21

I just turned 21 years old, I posted a lot of foolish comments on here before. I am glad to actually play now, legally, although I play less now than was I was under age.

I am somewhat compulsive but I can be extremley disciplined and I do have many friends with great talents who can play with or for me. I have a $15k to $20k bankroll at the moment.

I am looking to start practicing heavily again in the next month and by october start playing. I can play 6 decks, and possibly goto Vegas or AC.

Any help is greatly appreciated, or any criticisim, what can I expect for a return on my time/investment. Where should I play, how adequate is my bankroll, should I play solo or with 1-2 friends.

You should have mastered BS before even thinking hi/lo.

I know 95% of BS is just a number you used but it means you do not have it mastered yet and are making some serious mistakes. You can also think of it this way, 20% or so of your edge will be determined by your proper deviations from basic strategy depending upon the count. How can you deviate from something you do not know perfectly?

Finally, what does 95% of AP mean? I would think any of us here would wish we could recognize and exploit 95% of the advantage play opportunities that present themselves.

I will say there are about 1/20 plays that I do not have memorized. I have Basic Strategy memorized, that is easy I have known that before I started counting, never split 10's unless your a counter or an idiot, always split 8's and aces, never split 5's etc... Deviations from BS in accordance with the count being high or low is where I am not perfect in my memorization, was better but quit for a few months till i turned 21...... thanks.... so what now?

I suggest you get hold of the "Counter's Basic Strategy," and forget varying your play according to the count when playing 6 or 8 decks.

It'll reduce your fatigue and stress levels, and yield about the same advantage; as the more decks in the shoe, the more important it is to bet right and less important it is to vary your play.

I think we will get More Adv if we vary our play before. So any Disadvantage if We Vary our Play by the COUNT?

Or if you can't get that one, read "Blackbelt in Blackjack" & the Rick Blane (?) book, "Blackjack Blueprint" (?). (not sure of the spelling/complete name of the last book).

The team manual portions of the book will tell you how good you ought to be with your counting...for example can count down a single deck with 2 cards removed in 25 seconds or less 10 times in a row without error; knows all basic strategy plays and the I18, C22 & Fab 4 surrenders, knows the top 3 risk averse indices...

if you've already covered that material well i guess you are farther along that i thought.

you might also sign up for green chip for a quarter or two, maybe more and read all the achives plus search through the various sub-boards for more material on how to develop your game

just how far you want to go with counting, advantage play, other forms of gambling is your choice...and you know, a significant other could change all the plans you have for yourself with AP

I started blackjack around 17 years old. Major casinos at 19. Counting for about 18 months. Read BB in Blackjack, blackjack like the pros, bootleggers 200 proof and a few more, I own several others lots of repetitive information, but ever book teaches something new, working on my bankroll, a partner of mine is into the blackjack as well so as far as children or a partner that won't matter much.

I can count a deck down in less than 30 seconds, I am on the east coast and don't have many casino options unless I have a 10x larger bankroll to play 6D $50 min.

Bankroll is about $20k.

Will look into the rest of the books, practice more, find better casinos and keep my bankroll in that area and make sure all pays are paid in advance, I just have to make sure i don't ever lose control, at times I can get a little clumsy while playing for hours, but i guess its in my nature or human nature period.

Should i bother with 8 deck 75% pen 10-15 min$ or save for AC or Vegas? that is a big question i have been to foxwoods, mohegan and turning stone and some in canada but now that im 21 vegas would be great but i wouldnt know where to begin there

you counting skills are probably okay...when i first learned to count, it was the turning over the cards that was the time consumer for me...if i just fanned the cards from one hand to the other i can count down the deck in under 20sec, sometimes under 15--

perhaps the Gulf Coast is a good option for you rather than coming all the way cross country to Vegas...i believe there are some good pitch games there still, the games are dealt slower, and the casino staffs more friendly

still, with at bankroll of $20k i think you would be well funded enough to head to Vegas and play the fair shoe games for lite green & up on the South Strip...again, if you join green chip you can see Fine Tuner's monthly ratings of Vegas games to get some idea where to go once there...early mornings on weekdays you ought to be able to find $10 minimum 6D H17 DAS LS games on the strip

requirements for team membership in a count team...see the chapter on team manual...if you meet the speed requirements for counting down a deck, you are okay there...if you know basic strategy, test yourself on that too, and the I18 play variations, you are set...

based on the stuff in BA3, i would add the FAB 4 surrenders, the four variations that make the I18 into the Catch 22, and perhaps a couple of modifications for the top 2 RA indices...and behold, you will have become "COUNTERMAN!!!" the I18, Catch 22 & Risk Averse indices are also in BJA3

the best part of BJA3 i believe is Chapter 10...and after reading that, the other parts of the book become more useful
