Special Counting Tricks?

Does anyone know any little tips that can help you even if you arent counting? aka ive heard that generally if you've lost four in a row you should walk to another table because its probably a really bad count. Is there anything else like this, and is this true?

1) Don't play if you can't count and can't play a perfect basic strategy.
2) If you don't want to adhere to #1 and insist on gambling your money, at least know basic strategy perfectly for the BJ game you're planning to play. Don't deviate with hunches.

Read books, learn, ask questions, learn more, practice, learn, read more, practice, THEN go and play.

I've lost four in a row on really good counts many times but also many of those times I hung in there a kept chunking the chips out, got it all back and more.

My advise for you is to stop playing until you learn to count, do the math and play according to the math and the count. The info is available. Learn before you burn my friend.

Card counting is the only way you can gain any type of advantage or ever hope to win more money than you loose. Superstitions, like "hot" dealers or progressive betting do not hold up against the mathmatics that the casino's depend upon to make a profit.

Take your example above - Yes, you've just lost 4 hands but what cards were removed from the shoe during those 4 losses? If they were all small cards and the count is now (for example) +4
1. the non-counter walks away from the table and on to another table where the odds are still against him.
2. The AP (Advantage Player/Card Counter) stays and increases his bet because he knows the odds have moved to his favor.
3. The progressive player doesn't have a clue what to do - he will either raise or lower his bet based upon his system. He might get lucky this time but in the long run he'll loose all his money.

If you want to win you must learn how to count cards. Get a good book and study it - I'd recomend Standford Wong's Professional Blackjack (since this is his site after all). The information is based upon millions of hands of Blackjack run on simulators. The numbers are all there for you to look at and draw your own conclusions if you don't believe his - or you can get your own simulator and try out the "tricks" you've heard about and see the results for yourself.

Thank you for your arrogance. I easily play perfect bs and know how to count, well I know how to do a halves count and can run through a deck in twenty seconds. I will admit though I have not yet learned any advanced counting techniques and there is still much for me to learn. Here I will give you a tip, if a dealer checks his hole card twice to see if it is an ace and its not, it is probably a four because they look alike. Counting takes talent and skill, and like any other game the best let their play do the talking.

Card counting is not the only way beating BJ. I will not tell you on a public board like this. Think deeper.

Who told you this? This is not true at all. The cards are designed so the dealer can only see if it is an ace. If it is not an ace he can see nothing. The ace is in a different place on the card. He can't even see a ten unless he has an ace showing. This is why the dealer checks a different corner for ace vs ten. The dealer DOES NOT know the card unless he has blackjack.

Hole card play and shuffle tracking are both legal AP play. They are not easy but there are still pros doing it.

You will not be able to overcome the house edge doing it but if you just experienced 4 losses in a row chances are the count was bad for the cards in those four hands and now the count is better. The house advantage is slightly lower after a string of losses but not enough to bring it your way.

Casual counting is just as easy and a whole lot more accurate. A decent casual counter can easily eliminate the house advantage.

I read it in a book by donald dahl. he didnt have any statistical things to back it up though.

Dealers used to lift the cards up to look at them. Those days are long gone. Some casinos even have electronic devices to tell if it is a blackjack. Most casinos have their dealers looking at the card as I described in my first response. I do not know of any that still lift the cards but perhaps they are out there.

Don't read anything by Donald Dahl, John Patrick, Gregorian, Richard Harvey, or most of the books you can buy at Barnes & Noble. (Professional Blackjack and Burning the Tables excluded of course)

Pick up either of the latter books as well as any of the following for a good basis on counting.

Knock Out Blackjack
Blackjack Attack 3

If you can count a deck in 20 seconds, you should be able to count during a casino game. All you need to learn now is how to bet based on the count. Later you can learn how to vary your play when the count changes. Don't worry about advanced techniques like reading the dealer, spooking, or shuffle tracking. Leave that to the guys who are making a living at this.

This guy was the first to discover there are 13 types of cards in a deck. A real pioneer. He is also the first to discover that the more people are at the table, the deeper the actual penetration is. Therefore he suggests you should ALWAYS play at full tables. A real genius. And lastly he was one of the first to discover that one of the 52 shuffled cards could end up in or around the same spot as it was in the previous deal, therefore randomness does not exist.

He is without a doubt one of the all-time greatest blackjack minds.

Well you could search for a single deck game where the dealer exposes the bottom card while shuffling. If its a ten or ace try to cut it so you get it by playing 2 hands. Litle card? Either bury it or practice cutiing so that it ends up the dealers hole card. You can usually get a good idea if this worked by noting whether the card does not turn up on the play of the first round.

Another thing you can do is if you are playing DD is just count the aces you see in the first half of the played cards. If zero raise your bet somewhat.

Now these two little example 'tricks' are something that you can do perfectly well while you count. So the best advice is don't look for crutches, get on with learning to count.
