Some "reality" casino TV shows are only propaganda

Last night on the A&E channel was another "reality" casino show: "Caesers 24/7". How pathetic a display this was. In the space of a short program one person hit for a million dollars, another lady had hundreds bet on double zero roulette and hit it for 35-1 payoff and all through it the pit boss and hostess were filed with joy to see the winners. Then one greasy looking tattoo guy was busy "hooking up" with all the ladies within minutes of meeting them. "Coincidentally" (for some reason) their cameras were there when all these things happened!

For some reason, they left out one incident as their TV cameras were not there! During my last visit to Caesers none of this happened! No cheering pit bosses rejoicing in my win or slutty hostess massaging and fondling me as I stacked my chips. Instead they sent a brigade of their caveman security force who circled my table as if preparing for a beheading. Then, using less then polite language, suggested that if I continued to play I would lose body parts as they escorted me from the casino. It was nothing like the show! Imagine that? Makes me suspect that the writers of this fantasy BS show were probably some of the regular dreamers on this page!

Makes me want to puke. The Green Valley Ranch show was fortunately on late enough that dinner had already digested and left my stomach. Otherwise it would have been on the floor. People "loving" each other. Dealer's and pit bosses loving to see players win. Obviously it is all P/R trying to get more suckers into the tent.

I recently filmed an episode of "Caesar's 24/7" where the premise was for me, as a blackjack pro, to teach some hobo how to be a big winner at blackjack. Oh, wait, there's a catch -- Caesar's wouldn't allow me to talk about card counting at all.

Its amazing to me still how absolutely paranoid -- and ignorant -- casinos are in their marketing of a show like this when it comes to card counting; they treat it as some mystical skill that, if they allow any serious information to leak out about on air, will result in thousands of card counters descending on their casino en masse to take all their money.

So i taught my hobo how to play Basic Strategy, gave her some money management tips, and luckily she actually made some $$$ that night. Of course, on-air it will look so much more glamorous, like a couple minutes with a basic strategy card is all you need to become a big winner. So needless to say i'm crossing my fingers to see the final result -- i tried to stay as realistic as possible about the odds of winning, promising only that she'd be "a better player" rather than "a guaranteed winner," but you know how things can change in the editing room...

I don't know about the others, but I'm sure they're on par with American Casino, which (to put it nicely) is a stinking pile of crap. Half the stuff they show on there never actually happened - it didn't halfway happen, it wasn't embellished, it was flat-out made up.

I thought the Discovery Channel would have had more scruples than that. How sucker of me.
