Just don't understand their business model
Pretty much as I suspected. We visit the local casinos on a weekly basis so my wife can play video poker--at off hours to avoid the crowds. I'd rather be playing blackjack, but when I walk past the tables, I see higher-stakes games, those abominable CSM's, maybe a few $10 shoes, and several empty tables with idle dealers who are getting paid. So I join my wife at the machines and make an occasional trip to downtown Vegas or Laughlin for $5 DD 21. Obviously there is SOME profit in $5 tables, and there are a lot of low-budget local players like myself who would give them business.
On the general subject of the casinos' paranoia re advantage bj players, they are throwing the baby out with the bathwater and ruining blackjack for themselves as well as the players. Yes, it's possible for a good card counter to get some of the casino's money. But my experience is that for every good counter there are at least 10 who only think they can do it. They sit down at the table with too little buy-in, too little time, or too little discipline--and they lose. Those players are a cash cow for the casinos, but they won't play with CSM's, shoes, and 6:5 payouts. Hopefully there will continue to be some establishments that understand what keeps people playing the game, or we'll all be reminiscing about the good old days.
