I took out 20K from my savings and then played black. Spread up to 1K and doubled several times with that amount. Got 5 grand back. Sound familiar?

Your 1k "session bankrolls" were insufficient for even the low spread you played. Your spread was probably insufficient too.
Sorry, all the time I have right now.
Don
Thanks Don, I glanced thru the pages. Not full study. I wanted to comment on Daves? first.
I can relate to it. The ? for Dave #1 ; Are you just chasing the rabbit or is there reason for such a large bet increase. #2 At low stakes you used 1/4 spread, at high stakes 1/10 spread.
Now in my experience: If I were and have been on a Blk table with 1/10 spread, Up 5K W 20K BR; I don't think I'd stop unless something wasn't right. Unless I was just chasing the Rabbit to begin with.
Why the comeback? Was is because of the change from 1/4 to 1/10 spread? Any AP worth it's weight in salt will eventually get back any loses. Or wear out your welcome etc.
Thank you for your post and ref. to Don:s great book.
Now I will try to explain my differ. Dave played at least 5 sessions; at 1/4 spread-1K BR. BJAP does not have a stop or a start. In my eyes, thats like saying a 5K BR isn't enough for a Green table.
Only way I can agree. Larger BR much better at 1/4 spread if you intend on playing hell or the highway till you do your EV. At the same time exposing yourself to the familiar No Treasping sign.
I have 2 local stores. Average 1 a week per store for 3 years. I do well(according to my standards) at both stores. I just use a 1/4 or 1/6 spread, mostly red & some green. I would have to travel more if I increased my spread. A little is better than nothing when it comes to travel and the time involved. Does Kelly consider that? I don;t think so. Low spreads can work, just much slower.
Rabbit is an animal common to the rodent family. A rabbit is very hard for us humans to physically catch. Although my best friend is a natural, all things rabbit. He comes from the Beagle family, and he never fails to catch the rabbit! It's been a while, hasn't it ?.
Chasing the Rabbit; I think most people on this site already know what the phrase means in the gambling and AP world. One try.
Example: I'm on a losing streak. I've been playing a long time. I just keep losing. Now I'm getting desperate. I got a get all this money back. I've been playing red all night. 5 different sessions all in the same night.
At this time, my emotions are in full tilt. I'm not thinking about all the wisedom and wise advice I've been taught from others. I'm thinking if I just start at a higher spread at higher miminum, I can catch that rabbit real quick and get all that BR I wasted back real quick and then walk when I'm even. It works every time for my best friend. He is smarter then some humans when it comes to the art of rabbit chasing. note to self, good for dogs not humans.
Stop Loss, OKay
This ain"t goucha. Good comment or question IB.
Don S. gave an opinion on this a while back as it also relates to starting BR. (no dis Don, thats the word you used; thats how I learned to spell it). Stop loss?
Every so often some of my Post get the board realy lite up and I hope this is one of them, thanks to Innocent Bystander. All his fault. Realy good basic subject in my eyes.
Me: I'm in town for 3 days. For my BR I bring all my credit cards. Just kiding. Step #1 Your TBR is your BR and your BR is TBR so be careful. Step#2 Make a 5K BR last thru 3 days.
For me: Stop Loss, I better figure that out real quick playing 6dk for several days on and off. 1K per session with time limits. 1/4 spread. Nothing else; we need to discuss this for new BS BlackJack players and so on.
Friends Fun Funds, In that exact order. Nobody is an Island. Never alone. If you read this, you know this.
Now: I'm sitting at a red 6dk table. I have 4K in my room, minutes away. I have 1K in my pocket. Being my BR is really low for 3 days, I better do this right on sit in my room and watch the 5 TV channels for 3 days till the boat comes to fetch me.
I like friends and fun, but I also need money. If i have the 1st 2 I"m still happy but the money would make me extra happy. So for comps sake, I'l buy in at almost radar level for for 300$ on a 10$ table. What I do in the next stage while playing is a constant for years. I think I 1st learned it from Ian Andersen.
IT is all cat and mouse related to trip expenses. In order to be a pro AP and enjoy all the highs and lows. You must included expenses. Part of the Fun part. When you love whatever you do, you already WON. My best friend is a rat at the casino. And I found a place to put my friend and friends. My little round cash friends fit in my pockets etc very nice. How can I buy in at 300$ all I have and over and over the pit tells me I'm only down 1K. If I'm down 1K and I only had 300$. What happen to the other 700$ ?.
AP BJ is more than the numbers. I18 and this equals happy. And after that and a hell of a lot of study you may be able such as I and know that when you walk into a casino you may meet a new BFF and will always know that you have the advantage. Win or loose for the moment.
Stop Loss, no, I understand the words. Big Player whom I've learned a lot from. How does BP play Stop Loss? We don't play sessions long enough to understand the Loss part before we stop. Or is that only something you learn while chasing the rabbit? Comments Welcome.
Thanks & Good Cards: LWC
And I'm guilty of the rodent. I'm only human. Plus these games suck.
In your book there's a harrowing sentence that says overbetting is fatal to your bankroll. It's still harrowing today.
Underbetting is no less fatal.
