So I got half shoed

I was at my usual casino and got almost half shoed (6 deck shoe)
This casino cuts out one deck or just a bit more normally. I play out the shoe using B.S. acting like I didn't notice. The shoes played after that one were cut the usual one deck or one and a half decks per usual.

??? Were they testing me to see if I'd get up and not play the shoe? (thereby proving to them I'm a counter?) The short shoe only happened once-I'm thinking that if they meant it for me to leave they would have continued the short shoeing 'til I got up and left.

Is it possible that they were targeting someone else at the table? In my experience of being half-shoed, I would stay and the treatment would continue. I usually leave after the second shoe. It could have been a test and you passed. It could be they were targeting someone else. It could have just been a mistake by the dealer. I guess the big test will be the next time you play at that casino.

You're right-the next trip could be interesting. I really doubt it was a mistake by the dealer-man,like cutting out two and a half decks!!!!!!! No,they weren't concerned about any other players so far as I could tell. What baffles me is that they just did it once-I remained and they went back to normal.

I'm a greenie and sometimes play in Wendover NV. I haven't been there for awhile and I'm wondering if anyone has gotten heat (or worse) playing at any of the casinos there? Do you need cover? Is a 1-4 or 1-5 betting limit going to draw attention these days?

I am thinking it may have just been an individual dealer wanting to give you the message that he knows you are counting. But for what reason? Toke hustling? Wanting you to keep a polite spread? Wanting you to know that he is not naive to card-counter?

I've had that done to me. You don't mention your average bet size in relation to the table, or how much time you spend a pop. If that stands out, it's probable. Do you know the dealer(s) and pit? Are you stubborn?

A floorman is usually present during your first half shoe, or you should detect prior instructions from the pit to the dealer. You may hear a telephone ring and put 1 and 1 together. It's rare for a dealer to give administrative charge on the fly if it's your first.

Try to remember their facial expressions and reactions during that half cut play. Was the pit watching? Any sighs of disgust? Any shaking of heads in the pit? Any kinds of moans of disgust on your persistence?

I don't believe dealers can make the decision to half shoe somebody. Anytime I've seen it done the floor had to ask the pitboss. I remember years ago in Biloxi I went with a friend into Boomtown. Without playing a hand or even having been there before, we were both half shoed. I played a shoe and left the table while my friend kept playing. The subsequent shoes were normal cuts. It seems they were automatically half shoeing the first shoe on any player that walked in. We both cracked them then left.

While it's correct that many casinos won't allow their dealers to take matters into their own hands (or, if they do take action, they face consequences ranging from a verbal warning to termination). However, I have been at places where the dealer is buddies with the shift manager and is comfortable making their own such decisions.

There was one time I got half-shoed, and I was almost certain the dealer was acting alone. This casino has always been tolerant, there was no heat, and there was no interaction between the dealer and the pit. Knowing that the next dealer rotation was only a few minutes away, I stalled such that the shoe would end after the rotation.

The next dealer comes in, and is visibly surprised when the cut card comes out so early. She looks at the original dealer (now at the next table which had no players) with a confused look, and he winks at her. This prompted her to also half-shoe me. Now I had to add not one, but two dealers to add to my shit list.

I moved to a different table and played a few more shoes, all with the normal penetration for this casino. There was no heat from the floor. It was obvious that I just had a couple of dealers who decided it would be fun to screw around with the pen.
