Stick to the better 6D games up north, never had heat in 8+ years. And avoid Detroit (8D, H17, no surrender, and horrid pen at Motorcity, only 50%-55%). I'd rather drive the 4+ hours for the better game and lower limit then the trash in Detroit.
I've had friends recently backed off at a few northern michigan casinos, so it's good to remember it's never a guarantee. I don't know how large/small you play--but maybe that's more of a factor than counting itself.
Anyway--MGM in Detroit has a 6 deck game that often I can get 1-1.25 deck pen on $2500 limits, so pretty good game.
The cool thing about the northern casinos (little river being my favorite) is the unique real of doubling after splitting aces. Adds some good value to the game--they also let you spread to three hands--which can be an added bonus if your bankroll can handle it.
MGM is good if you have the BR for their 6 decker. Usually its $50 min but the pen is about 80%+ on both the 6 and 8D games. Plenty of tables to wong into. I usually spread 1 to 15 or so. Pretty much a moronic pit in the "D", (Just like their mayor). Greektown's 6 decker in the high limit room has some $25 tables mornings or early afternoons. Those butholes got me though a few years back, and on the 8 deck game with a measly 1-8 spread!! Yes I was beating it. Nice they have forgotten though :)~. Still I prefer up north, and yes the double on the split aces are beautiful sites. Motorcity is only good if you play poker also. Might get into a game with Darren McCarty LOL. Stay off the BJ tables there (55% pen at best). One of the casinos in up Brimley had a DD game as well but that was in 2004 and not sure if they still do.
Just incase you were wondering, the rules of the DD game in the Kewadin's are: limits $5-$100, D10/11, late surrender, NDAS, one card to split aces, no resplits and usually a bad 50% pen. Never had heat though.
Their website says this:
"From the most liberal Blackjack rules in the midwest to our 10x odds craps table, we have it all!"
BS I say!! A .51% HE is not liberal to me.
I have had a few dealers give me 65% at best. Worst of all for counting, is that if you and all others bust and/or players get BJ's, the dealers wont show the hole cards. This goes for their 6D game too, so its best to have a couple others at the tables. That way, hopefully, someone stands and the dealer plays out his hand. Otherwise you will not see alot of cards that they wont show.
MGM smartly ditched that god aweful 6/5 single decker.
Looking at their website noticed that Smokey Robinson performed on 4-13-08. Motown rocks and he is one of the best.
Never been there but the place sounds interesting. Any decent DD?, and do the BJ games stay open 24hrs? Any opinions on rooms, games, or general observations of casino and surrounding area appreciated.
Upper Michigan is a nice place to get away and relax. Bj is ok and havent seen heat in over 8 years. Kewadin seems to think surrender is a good rule for the house, hence no heat. 6 decker also has surrender with $3 mins and standard rules: S17, DOA, DAS, late surrender, and resplit to 4 hands except aces (1 card each). Most places are 24 hours except I believe Manistique and Christmas.
