single deck question

Hi everyone, I am a beginner at counting using the hi low. I am very familiar with double deck and know basic strategy like the back of my hand. However, I am now spending time playing single deck and would like to know anything that would help me get better at this kind of blackjack. besides following a perfect basic stratgey, basic strategy deviation, counting, is there anything else that would help me improve my game at single deck? also, I know of the 6-5 payout as well and good table conditions.

Hopefully what you "know" of the 6-5 payoff on blackjack's tells you not to play those games. The most important thing is that you need certain table configurations for certain rules to have a chance to win.

For a standard h17 double-any single deck game or s17 d10 you need at least
6 rounds to 1, 4 rounds to 2 to win with a 1-3 spread
5 rounds to 1 or 3 rounds to 3 to win with a 1-4 spread
7 rounds to 1, 5 rounds to 2, 4 rounds to 3 or 3 rounds to 4 to win with a 1-2 spread or 2 rounds to 6 or 7

4 rounds to 1, 3 rounds to 2, 2 rounds to 3, 4, or 5 and 1 round to anything is a waste of time except maybe if they'll let you use a shoe game type spread (16-1) but then you won't get more than a few max bet cycles.

For h17 d10 game you need to increase the above mentioned spreads by 1 unit (so 2-1 needs to be 3-1, etc.)

A count system with a strong playing efficiency helps too.

could you explain that a little clearer please. I new at this and didn't understand what you were saying. One other thing I have read 10 books on BJ all the authors say don't give your real name ,but then say they are earning a lot of comps. This is something else I don't understand how are they doing that?

I'll let BP clarify, but i think he means you can tolerate less hands per deck if you can get away w/ a higher bet spread. I only give my name at the place I'm staying if they're comping me. Anywhere else, I'm anonymous. I'll take the comps where I stay & play a little more conservatively, but try to win as much as I can anywhere else w/ 30-60 minute sessions.
Are there any playable single decks any more?
