side bet on ties

If a tie bet pays 10:1 at what count does this become a positve expectation wager. Using hi/lo is assumed. And if the wager does ever become positive expectation is there a count that will be a better predictor of ties and lack of ties. Any info on this tantalizing but probably not too volatile sidebet would be appreciated. It would be better if more ties occur during high counts since the max wager of the side bet is the same as the current hand and minimum side bet of $1.

As far as I know, no one has ever published any indexes or simulation results for beating this side bet.

You have to seriously modify basic strategy to maximize the EV of the tie bet. See the link below for more info.

My 2�: Play 1/5 of a unit or so on the tie bet when the count is high enough to put out a max or near-max bet.

If you're a red-chipper spreading 1-6, risking a dollar or two more when you're already putting out $30 doesn't seem unreasonable; you're probably toking on this bet, anyway.

After all, how many times have you pushed with 20 (or worse, blackjack) with a max bet out? (And the count likely goes down now; if you're being paid off on the tie bet, you can use it as cover to lower your bet as you take in your winnings.)

In my only trip to Barley's, I played the tie bet (or as they call it there, "Push Your Luck") three times when the TC was 5 or higher, and won twice (both 20s, if I remember correctly). No, that's hardly scientific�but it sure felt nice to make $19 while risking only $3.
