Can any AP consistently beat a shuffling machine to generate a decent EV per hour?
There are two types of shuffling machines: the continuous shuffle machine (CSM), which is constantly putting back dealt cards into the shoe, and the automatic shuffling machine (ASM), which simply shuffles the cards so that the dealer doesn't have to.
Any AP can generate the same e.v. for the latter (ASM) as for a hand-shuffled game; but no AP can generate any kind of decent e.v. for the former (CSM).

when the bottom card is seen entering the ASM?

You cannot beat a CSM in the U.S. I have heard that you can beat CSMs in Europe but don't know much about that.
