Fair question....

Simply put, Blackjack is not what it once was. One of my favorite stores that offered a great single-deck game has now gone to D9.

That is just one of 100s of examples that I can cite. Comps are not what they once were (except for the excellent values in Reno). And the EITS is ever watchful. Grinding out a meager EV no longer is an optimal use of my time. The opportunity-cost of playing is not garnering me a sufficient hourly pay without the presence of extreme bankroll swings.

Moving onto "greener pastures", as they say. Best of luck to you all...

The game is slowly but surely sinking into the sunset. The abundance of ploppies, Vegas being the "in" vacation spot, kids, 6-5, etc, etc, etc. You have to really shop around for something decent, and when you find it, you had best keep it a big secret!

And, about a month or two ago I posted about the water issues in Vegas. Recent news events show that Lake Powell is at unheard of low levels, like over 100' low. Anyone care to guess how many gallons of precious water evaporates from the Bellagio fountains alone each day?

Just wait till the baby-boomers retire. I suspect the influx to the Vegas area will be the final straw to the demise of anything decent regarding BJ. Thus my new found interest in craps.

I can only hope I'm wrong, but it ain't lookin' too good.

Sure it takes work but opportunities are everywhere. Two weeks ago I sat down at a double deck game where the dealer was cutting at 90% pen. I really just started counting and I see these things all the time. I stayed longer than I should have since I was down. Still a mistake but it is in the past now. My point is as long as you can find a game with an advantage and have the bank to survive, the income is inevitable. I realize that as the years go by we need a larger and larger bank to be able to play, but the opportunities are and will still be there. 6:5 is a fad that will disappear(hopefully). Ploppies have always been there.

And....as long as you have the big bank you can always play 6 deck and make a killing. 6 deck is better cover but I just don't have the bank for a decent spread. I also find it boring but I know some day I will switch to shoe games for less heat.

...whether the game of blackjack will suffer a long slow death or if this too is of a "cyclical" nature. Not that you will ever likely see S17 DAS RO7 SD common again, but I am not so sure that the world is doomed to 8 deck CSM 21e games either.

Many things change over time. There are still opportunities to be had. I believe that if the beatable games are totally destroyed, the gambling industry will have harmed itself tremendously. Cardcounting was the best thing that ever happened to the bottom line of the casinos from blackjack. When the game of blackjack was first offered, BJ paid even money, there was no doubling down and no splitting. Obviously, nobody ever won so they had to change the rules.

Keep the faith. 21 is still the cash cow of table games. Poker is becoming a bigger and bigger thing now, so maybe some of the pressure will be taken off here or maybe it'll make things worse. Who knows?
