Request for info: Best School to Learn BJ & Craps?

I'm considering a move to Las Vegas, and am inquiring as to which dealer school, in your opinion, is the best in terms of learning blackjack and craps, cost of tuition, and assistance with employment after course completion.

In the end, it will probably come down to my own abilities to pick up the material - I think I'll do pretty well learning the games - and my persistence in hitting the pavement looking for work, and showing that I am very capable of dealing and being friendly to the customers.

Anyway, I thought I would ask, as some of you might be dealers and/or have friends that are/were dealers.

Also, would it make things go faster if I applied for a sheriff's card before even looking for employment? But do I have to become a resident of Nevada first to do so? And if so, how should I go about becoming a resident of Nevada?

While that seems perfectly logical, they won't take your application until you have an actual job offer from a casino. The casino provides a form you have to take to Metro police.

That process is the least of your worries; it takes a couple of hours standing in line, and about $35.00. No big deal.

I don't know anything about the dealer schools, except that there's an inexpensive one at Mohave County Community College in Bullhead City, AZ, just across the river from Laughlin. Most Laughlin casinos get their new hires from that school.

If that location makes no sense for you, just call a casino, speak with a pit boss and ask him or her for information on schools. That's where most break-in houses (just about every downtown casino) get their dealers.

Be aware, though, that there are plenty of other opportunities in Las Vegas besides working for a casino. Casinos generally provide low pay (unless you get "juiced in" to a high-end store, as pat described above -- but if you had the "juice" you wouldn't be asking these questions, unfortunately), dreary working conditions, unpleasant and emotionally unsatisfying work.

Suggest you get a copy of the Sunday Las Vegas Review-Journal and look through the classified ads. There's much more than casino work available here.

if you like to travel.learning craps and bj will allow you to deal in the bahammas,florida,carnival lines,australia,or any other place you would like to see and stay.if you just want to work in vegas w/o juice,forget about it.you will be stuck at some hole for 30 bucks a day and hope to move up to 50 a day.follow lvbear's lead and play double deck at under the radar levels of about 30.00 an hour and forget dealing.

with a friend who is a pitboss at a good casino or are extremely good looking be prepared to spend a lot of time working at dumps like El Cortez and other break-in joints.

Some places and jobs require up-front money. I personally know someone who paid $20,000 to the guy doing the hiring, for a valet parking job. This was at a major strip casino. He was willing to pay, because this was a lucrative job, and required no speaking skills. English was a second language for him, and he is very poor at it.
