Question regarding backoff

Roughly three weeks ago I received my first back-off from a mid-strip casino. The guy backing me off was polite (almost apologetic), and said I could play other games, etc. I acted a bit surprised, didn't admit or confirm anything, but was just very, very polite and thanked the guy.

The fault was mine as I did not stick to a short session.

I was generally only spreading 1-2, sometimes 1-4 and wasn't trying to make a killing. game was DD with good pen, and the starting unit was $25. I figured that at that level with such a small spread I could play a bit longer. figured wrong. anyway, the other mistake is that they have my name. I also played other games at same casino after the back-off, as I stayed there for the trip. I actually played (other, allowable) games a few hours at same casino for the next 3 days with no problems what-so-ever; staff was generally very nice to me, even after a won a few thousand (luck).

I played other strip casinos after (almost immediately) with no heat or problems, and spread more aggressively.

question I have is that with the first back-off, and playing for such low $$$'s, would I be input into the S.I.N. system?

I have no problem changing up my play to bombing runs of 20-30 minutes max at a single casino.

I searched past articles for back-off advice but would appreciate if anyone had any other advice.

If this is a strip property with lots of sister locations (likely, given your description), you're obviously on their list, but with your stakes you probably didn't make Griffin.

Just play anonymously at the other locations. You might even get away with their shoe games for a while.

bart, correct me if i'm wrong. you're thinking of the computer-based Surveillance Inter-casino Network. this network is accessed via software produced by the company Biometrica, a division of Viisage. Biometrica also owns a database of known card counters; the database is (was?) called CVI and was created by former Griffin agent Andy Anderson. to be put into the SIN could mean: given an entry in the Biometrica-CVI database; your information would then be accessible by any Biometrica user.

however - and i'm trying to put together a picture for my own understanding here, so the following may not be accurate & perhaps should be corrected by folks more knowledgeable - the Biometrica software _also_ allows casinos to easily load surveillance photographs & information into their own, local database (in other words, not into the big, shared, CVI-Biometrica database, but just a local file in the casino's own system). also, users have the option of sending the information via the SIN to any other subset of SIN-subscribing casinos they choose to share with. so it is possible to have your information sent via a part of the SIN, without earning a full entry in the permanent CVI-Biometrica database. and you're wondering whether either of these things may have happened to you.

the CVI thing seems really unlikely. (a question i have is: does CVI still exist in a meaningful sense? does Biometrica determine who gets "promoted" from the general SIN-o-sphere to CVI specifically?) a local entry within the casino's system i suppose is likely, since they have all your info. i wouldn't think they'd bother sending it to anyone else at all, given your description of the situation, but i can't really say. i suppose there should be a note attached to your rating card now & the card should be presumed bad for blackjack. any griffin attention, as JohnDoe said, seems farfetched. i don't really know why they would back off someone spreading 1:2 in the first place, though.

As the "global economy" becomes more and more of a reality, I really really appreciate posts like this that give insight into the intricacies of the systems resulting from the original Griffin lists, the options pertaining to the sharing of data between casinos, property owners, and larger networks, and whatever other information that can be provided. As an IT professional, this information is not only interesting to me, but useful (I am sure it's quite a bit more useful to those people trying to make their living with this game, and I am not one of those people).
