please revise the advert policy

Please cut back on the very annoying LOUD blinking advertisements on the site. I don't mind _tasteful_ adverts. Banners with pretty pictures of beaches or casinos or whatever are fine.

For one, I deliberately do NOT click on any advert that "yells and screams" at me by BLINKING.

And, of course, if you're stupid enough to click on them, it won't stop them....it just reinforces this type of tasteless web-vertising.

I have visited this site since 1995. The adverts are much more "GREEDY" in nature than they were previously. The GREED and demanding nature of the adverts is just so obvious and so overt that it disgusts me. I find them very annoying.

I have counted cards using the RPC for more than 8 years, so I'm not a 'dim newbie.'

Thanks, if you have any consideration whatsoever for my opinion. I'm guessing you probably won't, because it seems that 'everybody's doing it' - - either pop-ups or these awful blinking ads.

Just because 'everybody's doing it' doesn't make it a good idea.

I'm against greed coming from the OTHER SIDE, whether it be a bricks-and-mortar or an internet casino. That's why I don't like the internet casinos using such rude, overt BLINK techniques for their ads.

David is our man in charge of negotiating banner ads. Instead of outright refusing to carry a given ad, I have asked David to try to rate the obnoxiousness of the ad, and make sure we are sufficiently reimbursed if we subject visitors to obnoxiousness. For example, blinking is more obnoxious than non-blinking, so we charge more for blinking.

Do you object to all blinking ads, or are some blinking ads more obnoxious than others? Perhaps you can give us guidance on how to distinguish "LOUD blinking advertisements" from blinking advertisements that are not loud, so that we can set our ad rates accordingly.

ANY advert that blinks is obnoxious. There are plenty of reasonable banners available. A blinking ad should cost a LOT more to the ad agency to run than a regular banner.

I also would have no objection to a slightly larger "column" advert, just so long as it does not blink.

As a counter, I DO NOT patronize web casinos, so I question the value of this sort of advertising!!!

FYI, I was in the advertising business for 26 years.

This is not some smarmy "image" campaign like the stuff GE and ADM put out on the Sunday news programs, this is a straight commercial ad.

To work, such an ad must do two things, and do them in the following order:

1. Attract the attention of potential buyers; and
2. Sell the product.

You gotta admit it succeeds quite well at the first requirement.

As those annoying little banner ads go, this is a pretty good one; and I'm sure it's effective.

Web advertising is tough to sell to businesses of our choosing. We'd love to carry Lexus ads, for example, but how do we interest Lexus in advertising on BJ21? We pretty much are stuck with selling advertising to those businesses that contact us asking to buy ads. Most of the inquiries come from offshore casinos. We don't sell as many such ads as some other web sites, because offshore casinos have learned that it is difficult to win money from people clicking through from BJ21.

People who design web advertising continually come up with new features, and they expect us to modify our software to display the new features. Some of those features can be more annoying than blinking. An example is pop-up ads; we have priced ourselves out of the market for pop-ups. I expect designers of ads to continue to find new ways to annoy viewers.

These cheesy online casinos are paying for the ads - it's their
perogative to create any type of graphics they deem appropriate.
And SW has already explained that he charges a premium to those
whose 'high bandwidth' ads slow down the site. And with advertisers
fleeing the Internet in droves now that it's fairly obvious that
it's not a guarantee to riches, SW can't be too picky about who
he accepts. As others have explained, this is a business to him,
not a hobby.

You might wish to get DSL. I just upgraded from dial-up. The
ads load much faster, and thus I can start ignoring them much
faster.

In advertising, there are essentially 3 groups of people:

1. Those who will buy the product anyway, even if they never see an ad;

2. Those who might buy the product if an ad intrigues them or appeals to them in some way; and

3. Those who will never buy the product no matter how often you reach them or what you say to them.

That is the *real* #3 in this particular case; so it doesn't matter if he gets offended or not.

appreciate the solicitation... any ad that puts money in your BR is okey dokey, especially if you skim a premium.

any commercial site that has found a way to limit pop-ups and pop-downs has my approval..

This is too subjective for a group the size of this forum. What you view as a "quality product" may be viewed as a worthless product from someone else's point of view. It would simply be impossible to get everyone to agree on what products and services are of interest, and to also agree on which ones of those are quality.

Web casinos can be played with an advantage and therefore would more likely be of interest to most on this forum of advantage gaming than the earlier mentioned products and services which you approved. Note that there is a page on this site dedicated to net casinos, so I fail to see how you can question the value of this type advertising but not Amazon, eBay, etc.

I do think we all agree that the rapidly blinking banners are much more annoying, but I think it would be impossible for SW to please everyone in allowing only specific products and services from only specific vendors.

You should see the icons that are used on cartalk.com They recently changed the icon for sending a page to friends to a cartoon of one of the original iMacs being placed in a box and shipped. I thought I was going to bust my own eardrum laughing.

Why not actively seek out ads the way Tom and Ray do? Toyota and Honda might be suprised at how many Accuras and Lexuses are clicked about. Why not have humorous graphics that pull across the top with things like "our sponsors have missed your surfing," and the like? You could have a similar puller that scrolls across the screen on the progressons page, "in case you took the advice here seriously," and have an ad for an online casio bonus being pulled across. Or even a bankruptcy attorney.

There are ways to keep the bandwidth use down with such displays. And you could have other scrolls that come across with messages, "do you know our server is getting bored with you?," and have an ad for an online store for movies.

There is simply not enough humor and too much flashing in these ads.

Go out and seek advertisers who have products that card counters might buy. This goes beyond the traditional books and software. There are lots of possibilities, and many of them are from companies that have good quality advertising programs: hotels, air travel, vehicles, eBay, Amazon, various luxury goods [particularly from discounters]...you name it. WalMart doesn't advertise in the magazine "Cigar Aficionado," even though they probably have the advertising budget with which to do so. "Cigar Aficionado" recruits advertisers who sell products in which its readers are interested. I'm an non-smoker, but I suggest that you flip through an issue for ideas of possible advertisers who might be a little bit better than visual spammers.

The point is that the ads make this site cheesy. Tacky, you know? I have better things to do with my time than spend it on a cheesy site. I enjoyed your site a while back before all of these ads.

I have no reason whatsoever to upgrade my internet connection at this time, and I will not do so because some "other" people want to impose themselves on my time and my space.

It seems that the majority opinion here supports these tacky blinking ads. I wish I knew why. I know that there is a better way, if only the managers of the site made a little effort to recruit advertisers whose products card counters will buy.

Mr. Wong - I know that you have made similar posts to this one in regard to time management.

So, with that, I will do what I have implied in this post, and I will no longer use this site.
