playing with a Basic Strategy card on the table

believe it or not, but in Europe i've seen players sit at tables with basic strategy cards. i don't know if this is allowed in the US. or how prevelant this practice is in other casinos.

There are players in the U.S. who do the same thing. I have seen it many times. I haven't seen a casino stop anyone from doing this, but someone else may have a different experience.

Just one more example of the most paranoid management group in Las Vegas, which probably explains why all of their casinos are dumps. They'll never be nothing more than small-time sawdust joints with their management philosophy.

The places where I've been in the US allow you to reference the card AT the table but they all do not allow you to lay the card ON the table - you must hold on to it or put it back in your shirt pocket.

One of my many BJ books (think it was "Burning the tables" but not sure) suggested using a basic strategy card as camoflauge. I have never tried that but it sounds like it might work. Anyone have any experience with this tactic?

You can have one, but you can't put it ON the table.

Apparently some places don't want you to have the card on the table, but I have played some places (e.g. MGM Grand) where the guy right next to me had one on the table, and it was no problem. In any event, I've never used one. Just put in a little work and you'll have it memorized.

Does anyone post on this board besides me that plays in Tunica?
I think things must be very different than in Vegas. Yes, many places in Tunica will allow a card on the table, some will not allow on table but you can refer to it. It is not banned from any Tunica casino.

Most times when you refer to it either some fool at the table (who does not know basic strategy) or the pit boss will tell you that you can't trust that card! They ususally say something like you should just go with what you feel!!!!!!

You'll usually only see them at lower limit tables.

But then I guess you'd d better be wearing dark sunglasses to, huh?

as long as it doesn't slow down the flow of play. Some years ago I had a major confrontation with a pit boss when I pulled out a Basic Strategy card to show a friend why I'd made a playing decision. I was finally informed that I couldn't sit at the table between deals and look at my card! It got real nasty. The guy got real fired within a week. Don't get mad... get even!

I guess they wanted to make sure all it contained was basic strategy. I don't know how an "I18" card would go over ;>)

but just so you guys know, i do know basic strategy. i play hi-lo, i'm only asking because i play with friends and family sometimes and i want them to play Basic Strategy when i'm not watching.

I was sitting at 3rd base at Foxwoods(had card resting in corner) when i was first starting out and this pit critter said I couldnt have it on table. I asked if i could have it with me(because i had it with me on other occassions) and he said yes just they dont want objects on the table.He asked to look at it i let him(it was a index card with BS for the game i was playing not a list of index number variations). He tried to convince me that surrender(16 vs 9,10, ACE & 15 vs 10) were incorrect before giving it back but of course i knew better. I dont know if the physical presence of the card on the table was a casino rule or he was just sizing me up.
