. . . assuming that a "couple of hundred dollars" represents no more than 2% of your bankroll.
And that assumes that you are comfortable with full Kelly betting (most people are not). It would be better if that sum represented 1% or less of your bankroll.
If your "bankroll" consists of a few hundred dollars, or if losing "a couple of hundred dollars" would ruin your whole day, then you would indeed be foolish to make such a bet.
Like to have a little more advantage before max bet.
Also I think spreading to multiple hands in high counts brings heat.
Of course, I like to try to get heads up play. If you have others at the table, you should play multiple hands from the start. Adjust your spread accordingly, and you can eat cards in negative counts.
Lost my taste for shoes. But if I find a juicy cut 6 decker w/nice shuffle, I'll give it a go.
Won't touch 8 decks with a ten foot pole, game seems like an unnatural act to me.
So what's so bad about placing $200 when we have a 2% advantage?
